An Excellent Must Read
This book was so very very helpful to my sanity my life. It bought everything into perspective about my marriage, I wasn't crazy, I wasn't losing it, it wasn't even me. I listened to this book 3 times & I'll no doubt read it another couple of times. I was blown away in the fact that I am not the only person in the world going through this kind of abuse. I am not alone in how I am being treated, how we all collectively can deal with the verbally abusive person in our lives. We don't have to take this abuse anymore. Thank you so very much Patricia Evans for writing about the struggles of women, & some men, in abusive relationships. I now have a purpose in life, to be freed from this treatment, and to stand up to my abuser. After 42 years of marriage I can now begin a new phase in my life instead of being buried in a dark tomb. If you are being abused read this book it will change your life.

Cause of a Failed Relationship
I loved this book and found that P. Evans enabled me to understand my feelings and reasons for them. I have recommended it to several friends and my Ex is reading and realizing the verbal abuse he is guilty of in our relationship. Hopefully it will help him in his future relationship.

Right on Point
this book is extremely informative this is very necessary work on this topic coveraging a broad range of opinions and experiences, very educational, while always remaining warm, the writers continually open up the realities all too common in the varieties of emotions experienced by a surviving partner of a Domestic Abuser or (Intimate Partner Abuse) In these tragic stories of physical, verbal and emotional partner abuse.

I liked the narrator. The stories were painfully familiar. So grateful that this book was written.

So many words, so little substance
What didn’t you like about Laural Merlington’s performance?
Sounds like a female version of Hans Moleman
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
A lot of nothing. No useful tools, techniques, just a litany of gynocentric (yes it's a word) examples. The countless quotes from letters she has received from readers add nothing to the text except to extend the hours wasted.

The content: more ideological rather than factual
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Although the facts, I trust the author, are true - she presents only one part of the story. She says as if the blame was 100% on the abuser and 0% on the abused person. It is simply not right and me being in recovery myself I see that the problem of such dysfunction is on both sides. Besides, the author recalls in most cases women as the victims, vaguely mentioning how men are verbally mistreated by women (sarcasm, cynical comments, also physical abuse) treated by women. It's more and more shown by recent studies.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator has a good voice, but is interpreting in such a way as the abuser was a monster and the abused person a soft and totally innocent person.
Do you think Verbal Abuse: Survivors Speak Out needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
If the analysis is going to follow only the above way of thinking, I think it is mis-informing the topic. Besides, me myself being a verbal abuser, I behave in such a way more of my unconscious fear rather than pure desire to control the other person.
Any additional comments?
The author be more objective.
