About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Melanie Dickerson returns with a breathtaking medieval romance that echoes the magic of Sleeping Beauty while delivering the adventure, faith, and emotional depth that define the Dericott series.

In the mountains near France, the medieval Princess Elyce is being forced to marry, thus forming an alliance that will enrich her father but enslave her kingdom. Instead, she chooses to feign her death and flee to Prague to beg King Wenceslaus to help save her people.

In England, the young knight Sir Gerard has a vision from God instructing him to help Elyce on her quest. When he arrives to find she has been near death for days, he manages to revive her. However, thinking the stranger was trying to kiss her, the princess immediately distrusts him. But her desperate situation forces her to accept his aid.

Pursued by her enemy's guards over mountainous terrain, they must also battle the deadly winter elements. Her greatest challenge may be to overcome the voices of disapproval and accusation from her childhood. Will her emotions lead her into her true identity, or will they undermine her ability to work with Gerard and to save her people, who desperately need her help?

Fast-paced, heartfelt, and rich with fairy-tale intrigue, Veil of Winter can be enjoyed as a standalone or as an essential chapter in Dickerson's beloved YA world (other books include Court of Swans, Castle of Refuge, Fortress of Snow, Cloak of Scarlet, and Lady of Disguise). With its thoughtful discussion questions and gentle spiritual insights, it's a wonderful, clean read for teens, families, and anyone who loves fairy-tale magic with real-world heart.

I have been hooked since starting the first book ‘the court of swans’ in the Dericott series! I’m excited to see that more books are to come, with ‘fortress of snow’ released soon! (Keen!)

Melanie Dickerson does indeed have a gift in uniquely retelling fairy tales. I love the sweet historical medieval romance genre. I also love how unique each book in the series has been so far too.

There were a few interesting descriptions that seemed out of place though (strangely simple/matter of fact), but perhaps it complimented the intense storyline! I do love the easy to read/listen choice of words though.

Thank you for sharing your gift with the world Melanie, I have been blessed and inspired, challenged and entertained, and just love the journey you’re taking us on! God bless you!

Honestly hooked!
