Story
In The Quantum Universe, Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw approach the world of quantum mechanics in the same way they did in Why Does E=mc2? and make fundamental scientific principles accessible - and fascinating - to everyone. The subatomic realm has a reputation for weirdness, spawning any number of profound misunderstandings, journeys into Eastern mysticism, and woolly pronouncements on the interconnectedness of all things. Cox and Forshaw's contention? There is no need for quantum mechanics to be viewed this way.

Brilliant, eye opening and motivating.
- By Imogen on 17-01-2024
Publisher's Summary
We live in a time of unprecedented upheaval, when technology and so-called progress have made us richer but more uncertain than ever before. We have questions about the future, society, work, happiness, family and money, and yet no political party of the right or left is providing us with answers. So, too, does the time seem to be coming to an end when we looked to economists to help us define the qualities necessary to create a successful society.
We need a new movement. One defined by a young historian who can tell us the truth about how we got here. They'd be a political outsider, the voice of their generation, one who doesn't harness rage or agitate grievances but who provides us with the answers for which we've been looking. That person is Rutger Bregman and his vision is Utopia for Realists.

Rutger Bergman wants billionaires to pay their taxes, just like poor people. And to save capitalism by giving value to life. Watch what you say, they will be calling you a radical...

Brilliant bubble-burster to revolutionse economics
Bregman's ideas are fresh, he busts myths and forces you to think beyond what is currently "known" in terms of economics, society and politics. All presented in easy to understand language, humorously written and underpinned by staggering and fascinating research. And Peter Noble's narration is excellent; engaged and very pleasant. If you read (listen to) only one book this year, read this!

Intelligent motivation for dreamers
I got this book thinking it would teach me about the advantages of a UBI.
What I got was insight into a completely different way of thinking about society.
Surprisingly this book is intelligent motivation for any dreamer who has any idea about how the world should be improved.

Rutger Bregman goes all out in this book. Many of the ideas are challenging, and make us flinch. But he makes some compelling arguments, and challenges the way we think about these issues, helping us to set our sights on the bigger picture.

Fantastic book, well written.
I certainly didn’t agree with all the conclusions, but it was a very entertaining and well researched book. Many of his ideas I think work in small experiments but would struggle if implemented across a national economy. But I enjoyed his point of view.

brilliant ideas with facts to back them up!
this books 3 main ideas are both aspirational, and apparently founded in truth as shown in the cited case studies. enough to spire you into action. whilst also making you think about how you use your measure time and the way you think about those less fortunate than uourself.
