About this listen

From the author of Dead Flowers on Wednesday and The Gold Box

Chris Falco is an ex-con who wants a new life. He thinks he's found it when he reconnects with his college sweetheart, Azalea, and moves to the city to be with her. She’s beautiful and glamorous, and the romance heats up quickly, but just as fast, Azalea starts acting strange. She sees things that aren't there, and talks to people who aren't there, like the man in the grey suit.

Early in their relationship, after a night of debauchery and fulfilled sexual fantasies, Chris and Azalea elope. He thinks he's married the girl of his dreams, and that his troubles are over. But soon after, he realizes that not only is she schizophrenic, she's also broke, and she realizes that Chris has problems too.

He needs to get a job to support the two of them, and he falls in with the mafia. This solves the immediate financial problems, but begins Chris' downward spiral into crime, violence, and drugs. Nothing is as it seems in Chris’ new life, and when his demons come out of the closet, the man in the grey suit tells Azalea a little too much. Either something beyond his power of conception is going on, or he is going crazy too.
