About this listen

After eight years, Henley Calvert is headed home. Back to the family farm and small town she left behind, never to be thought of again. Too much regret and shame to bear. But she's the only one left to see to her family's legacy, so she must return to Ashfall and face all the ghosts that haunt her.

Gatlin Holt, the family farmhand, awaits her arrival, and lends a hand - in more ways than one. He reacquaints Henley with the lay of the land while helping her heal her soul with a new outlook on life. Yet every time she thinks some peace may be within reach, Henley hits another roadblock. The biggest of which is Keaton Cash - her childhood nemesis who owns the farm next door.

And no, it's not a love triangle. That's impossible when Henley's heart is closed, incapable of love.

It's a well thought out story with a wonderful twist. I could not wait to finish this book. beautifully read, nailing each character voice with ease.

fascinating story

I read the reviews on this story and everyone raved about Keaton F@#!+@!G Cash, but I'm not so sure. I think his diligence and support of H in the story is definitely alpha wonderful and worthy and I know he's Southern and mamas raise their boys to be gentlemen but sheesh, this almost has a 1950s quality about it which confuses me because as much as H is fragile she is also very strong and she shows it In certain chapters in the book.
So for her acquiescence, considering where her mind is, seems a bit conflicting.
the beginning of the plot is awesome, it does its job and pulls you in and keeps you guessing, however when the crux is revealed, for me, it was a semi catalyst as I honestly thought there was bigger reasons going on.
the best bit of the book was the twist near the end....that took the book deeper and addressed more issues. and that's were the hero really excels.
the writing was really well done and kept me listening.
brooke bloomingdale did a fantastic job as narrator with great voice changes and tones and inflections. can listen to her again.
