Story
Indiana O’Meara is no stranger to the forces of evil. Now a policewoman, Indy is always fighting to redeem herself and defeat the dark. So when girls begin to go missing at a remote cattle station in Tasmania, she agrees to go undercover to investigate chief suspect Logan Atherton, the owner of Calico Mountain Lodge. But her early encounter with Logan reveals a man full of contradictions. His deep empathy for horses and those he cares for is obvious but he is also taciturn to the point of rudeness, and there is a strange atmosphere at the lodge. It doesn’t add up.

Story
When Emily's beautiful cousin Aspen goes missing somewhere in the Outback, no one seems to take it seriously, not even the police. After all, Aspen has a history of drug use and a string of broken relationships to her name. But Emily knows that her disappearance is totally out of character, so she books a flight to the Northern Territory to find her. Emily's search takes her south of Darwin to every road stop and tourist trap she can find, but the only person who turns up is the last person she expected to see, her ex-husband Ben. But there is a violent killer on the loose.
Publisher's Summary
Once a victim, she's now a vigilante. An addictive and suspenseful thriller for fans of Candice Fox and Sarah Bailey.
Lexi Winter is tough, street-smart, and has stood on her own two feet since childhood, when she was a victim of notorious pedophile the Spider. All she cares about now is a roof over her head and her long-term relationship with Johnny Walker. She isn't particular about who she sleeps with...as long as they pay before leaving.
Lexi is also an ace hacker, tracking and entrapping local pedophiles and reporting them to the cops. When she finds a particularly dangerous pedophile who the police can't touch, she decides to gather enough evidence to put him away. Instead, she's a witness to his death....
Detective Inspector Rachael Langley is the cop who cracked the Spider case, 18 years earlier - but failed to protect Lexi. Now a man claiming to be the real Spider is emulating his murderous acts, and Rachael is under pressure from government, media, and her police colleagues. Did she get it wrong all those years ago, or is this killer is a copycat?
Lexi and Rachael cross paths at last, the Spider in their sights...but they may be too late....
"Phenomenal. Lexi Winter is the gritty hero I didn't know I needed.... I'm now desperate for more." (Best-selling Australian author Nicola Moriarty)

Great Story Let Down by Narrator
This was a fantastic story, but I had to force myself to endure the narrator.
Her performance of the two primary characters was really good, but every other character’s sounded like it belonged in a kids OTT cartoon. It was cringeworthy and embarrassing.

Really enjoyed this
I was a bit hesitant after I read the blurb as I felt maybe a paedophilia story line may have been a bit hard to cope with but I was really glad I went with it. Great plot, interesting characters with just enough humour to lighten it in places.
Hope there is a sequel!

Absolutely Brilliant Story
I don’t know where to start, this is an amazing, brilliant story written with heart and caring and lots of suspense as Sarah Barrie knows how to do, she has taken us on a dark journey into child abuse (no graphic details) but given us the fabulous Lexi Winter, once a victim herself now she does everything she can to save children, she has become a vigilante and nothing will stop her from saving the children even breaking the law.
Lexi knows what it is like to live on the streets, she knows what it is like to be abused to feel unloved and uncared for, she is now twenty eight and has learnt a lot in the last eighteen years. She was a victim of the notorious pedophile the spider but these days she is an escort and has a roof over her head and loves a good whiskey.
Lexi has learnt to be a great hacker and helps her sister Bailee who works for community services tracking the bad guys, the pedophiles and notifying the cops, gathering information brings her into a situation where she witnesses a murder of someone who is very hard to touch, this leads her to a pedophile ring that needs to be shut down and fast, but memories of the past are surfacing and Lexi is getting more determined but it also brings her closer to danger.
Detective Inspector Rachael Langley was the cop who put the spider away all those years ago but let Lexi slip through the cracks and couldn’t save her and now there is someone claiming to be the spider killing young girls again and Rachael is on the case and is under the hammer not only from the government and media but colleagues as well to prove it is a copy- cat before the spider is let out of prison.
This case brings Rachael and Lexi back together, reluctantly at first they work together to do their best to bring the bad guys down, with a cast of fabulous characters, Detective Finn Carson, Jimmy the IT guy they all work together on this case and I cannot not mention Dawny and Desmond. There are many twists and turns, that had my mind going in all directions. This is a must read book set around Gosford on the Central Coast of NSW.
I loved Lexi she is strong, courageous and so caring after all she has been through she has a heart of gold. The ending is brilliant and I really hope that we will be seeing Lexi again, Sarah Barrie is a fabulous author who brings thriller and mystery together in stories that are page turners and I cannot recommend this one enough, it really is fabulous.
Cecelia Ramsdale was brilliant with the delivery of the story
