Publisher's Summary

From the outside, the house in Lakeview Terrace looks perfect, and the Bigelows seem like the perfect family: the respected surgeon father, the glamorous, devoted mother and two beautiful children. A perfect family, in a perfect house, living their perfect lives.

But perfect surfaces can hide dark undercurrents, and behind closed doors lies a very different story. Teenager Zane and his younger sister, Britt, are terrorised by their violent father and dysfunctional mother. Too afraid to speak out, Zane does his best to protect his sister and counts the days until they can finally be free.

One dark, brutal night when their father's temper takes a horrifying turn for the worse, the perfect façade is exposed for the lie it is, and Zane and Britt manage to escape. With the help of their beloved aunt, they rebuild their lives a day at a time, creating new families and putting their past behind them. But a childhood like that can cast a shadow the length of a lifetime. Can Zane and Britt ever be free of their past? Or will those dark undercurrents rise to the surface, forcing them to fight for their lives once again?

One of the best books I’ve listened to on Audible

Usually I listen to audible while I’m driving to uni as it takes a fair while and this book made me excited to drive to uni. I couldn’t wait to turn it back on and listen to more, it was seriously hard to turn off. Very gripping book that kept me interested the whole time

Worst book

I tried really, because I paid for it but I suffered through a lot if it but had to skip the last 10 chapters because it was soooo bad. Lazy writing - the bad guys so bad and the good guys sooo good no plot just Lazy lazy his story emulated here and just added hours of boredom when you knew what would happen. Hated it.

okay story, not really romance

Have a mixed response to this. it was largely okay, but not up with her best books. seemed to have a great focus on domestic violence and child abuse, and while quite realistic, is not what i want to have a majority of the book i am reading to focus on, when i was expecting more about the couple and their journey together. i found it hard to relate to them as adults when introduce after first 3rd dealt with male leads childhood. less time spent buiding/learning their characters, and very little time spent on their "becoming" a couple. seemed more like a mush mash of an expose on abuse, and crime novel where you already know whodunnit, with a bit of romance thrown in. i did enjoy some of the lighter dialogue, especially with teenagers, and the narrator is AMAZING - great repotoire of make/female voices and accents.

Definitely one of Nora Roberts all time best. January La Voy is an incredibly talented narrator. Sure there are plot holes but it was worth overlooking them for the enjoyment of great dialogue.

Couldn’t be better!

Couldn’t wait to listen to his book and was sad when I only had two hours remaining! Nora Roberts is an all time favorite author of mine and she hasn’t disappointed with Under Currents. Some could say ‘predictable’ but I honestly loved every ‘page’. The narrator brilliantly brought each character to life and never once didn’t I think she was boring to listen to. I was truly sorry when this book finished and could only hope the characters continue on with happy lives in my imagination:)

Entertaining

Nora Roberts has a fabulous way with words, and this book is no exception. I would rather read than listen, but love audio when I have work to do. Therefore companions work so well. Although I prefer male narrators to female, this narrator was not too difficult to listen to. Nora doesn’t disappoint with her vivid imagery and great story telling, I was beautifully entertained

Nora at her finest.

Loved it, even though I knew what to expect - still a great yarn. A relaxing listen - 3 stories in one.

Good, but with an obvious plot twist

I loved the book; I loved the characters, I found the subject to be relevant to today's society (in general).
But, unfortunately, I saw the villain "coming a mile away".

A lovely long listen

This is another cracking story. It has elements of other books, the author’s obvious love of gardens and dogs, and her enjoyment of small town America. The way she writes about these communities makes me want to up sticks and move countries! There were lots of storylines, but they all converged in the end. The characters were mostly believable, although sometimes the good are a bit too good to be true. Nora certainly knows how to suck the listener into the world she has created. The narrator was excellent as always.

Nice listen

I think January LaVoy is a wonderful narrator. Nice characters, good story, not much romance (which is good) and what there is was pertinent, but there was one eye roll when someone was “pulled onto his lap”! Do women do that? I’m as romantic as the next guy (women) but please, maybe it’s because I’m very tall! I know, I digress!
