Summary
Emma è una donna bella, coraggiosa, “schietta come il freddo del mattino”. Di origini povere e contadine, sposa un uomo ricco (monarchico e moderatamente filofascista) che ama. È felice, con una bella famiglia, un figlio che adora.
D’improvviso, la seconda guerra mondiale. Tutto crolla. Un dolore totale che toglie il respiro.
Ma poi Emma incontra una bambina ebrea. E la Resistenza partigiana, grazie a don Franco, il parroco amico di sempre. Entra così a far parte di una stramba brigata composta da ragazzini.
Emma si rialza, nello stesso momento in cui il Paese alza la testa contro il nazifascismo.
