De padres suizos y religión protestante, María Casal nace y crece en Sevilla en tiempos de guerra. Decide estudiar Medicina (era la única mujer, recuerda) y no tarda en hacerse católica. En 1954 dirigirá la escuela de enfermería de la Universidad de Navarra, y más tarde desempeñará diversos trabajos en la promoción y formación de la mujer, tanto en Italia como en Suiza.
En este libro da a conocer su itinerario interior, sus momentos junto a san Josemaría y algunos recuerdos sobre el desarrollo del Opus Dei.
