På forunderlig vis ankommer den 12-årige Jakob til Regnbueslottet, der også går under navnet Mirakelborgen. Her møder han den jævnaldrende dreng Raka, og de to drenge bliver hurtigt venner. Raka er søn af Ulykkernes Konge, og på sin 12-års navnedag er han nødt til at vende tilbage til sin far på Ulykkesborgen. Jakob beslutter sig for at følge efter.
Ragnhild Bach Ølgaard (1936-2015) var en dansk forfatter og maler. Hun arbejdede i mange år som lærer, men efter sin pensionering dedikerede hun sig fuldt ud til arbejdet som forfatter og maler. Ragnhild Bach Ølgaard har skrevet en lang række fantasybøger for børn og unge.
