Publisher's Summary

Captain Galvin Quintos had returned home to Earth soon after liberating Ironhold Station from a ruthless band of Pylorian pirates. But the Grish had been waiting for his transport ship - an attack he barely survived. Now, three months later, he’s still recuperating within the walls of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Just today, Quintos has learned of a new intergalactic adversary - a highly advanced alien force, the Varapin - who are currently en route from the Andromeda Galaxy. Intel has it, these ghoulish-looking aliens are now aligned with the Grish, and together, they’re hell-bent on annihilating all humanity. Quintos, certain his crew has already moved on to other posts and his ship, the USS Hamilton, surely still in space dock with battle damage, must figure out how to get back into the fight, and do so fast.

One of the best!

This Audible book, well as it predecessor, is probably the best space or Syfy books I’ve ever listen to. The author keeps it simple and tells a story without going into the techno geek language That 80% of listeners will never understand.

The narrator James Patrick Cronin Is the sole reason I ran across this author.
He is the reason for me to give this author a chance. It was well worth it and well deserved. Mark, keep this narrator under contract.

cliche characters and little research.

the good: potty mouthed Boston accented Hardy. is the character that saves this book. every time he's on he steals the show. the second best character is the Hamilton the ship is amazing and you can tell the author his lovingly crafted it.

the bad: the main character is a cliche bad boy hero type. if you read military sci-fi or military books at all they really ever have these types of characters in the lead unless it's some kind of a solo operations spy type thing. but running a ship in the real world and in the fictional world is a team sport. and I feel like we all are coming from a place of books like The dauntless and Honor Harrington. if you've read those then you know what you want this character to be like. this is the opposite he's disobedient he doesn't listen to his peers he makes one poor decision after another he has a horrible love interest going on with a woman who, if she was male would be a rapist. the supporting characters are cliche and lazily written. and the author clearly did zero research on how Navy ships work or the military in general people in the higher chains of command do strange unfathomable things and have strange horrible dialogue.

is I worth your time: I was able to sit through it it's not the worst book I've ever read. don't go into this expecting much though. as I said earlier the Hamilton is good the ship battles are okay. but there's something very appealing about a huge dreadnought bearing through space wrecking things with broadsides. so if you can push past all the dribble you'll probably enjoy this enough to keep it in your library.

Decent sci-if plot, obligatory comedic relief AI, bad romance plot

It’s a pretty good plot, doesn’t go too in depth into characters besides the main character, and honestly the protagonist feels a bit... shallow. I can’t get past the terrible weird cringe romance plot he is involved in. It feels like what a middle school boy would dream about happening (spoilers ahead). Honestly, anyone who has sex with an anonymous woman, and the woman who had the anonymous sex with him still has a crush on him but won’t tell him how she feels, like, wtf. These are supposed to be the captain of a space fleet and the main medical officer, yet they are this immature? Credit where credit is due though: evil space vampires, whoduthunkit, right?

Entertaining but the use of English is 'interestin

Easy going space opera. I don't know if the script was riddled with malapropisms, or if it is from the book. Example - Refuge Depot instead of Refuse Depot. It doesn't spoil the book for me but seems to be a thing in this series
