About this listen
I’d always wondered what it would be like to have a family. I just never expected to find it with five mysterious strangers who have more secrets than I could ever imagine.
Getting a scholarship to Evergreen University and majoring in premed means I need to keep my head down and focus on my studies. But campus is full of distractions…
The football god with his golden retriever charm. The tortured one with his vicious tongue. The broken boy with his determined protectiveness. The merciless billionaire with a penchant for spoiling me. And the genius professor with his brilliant mind.
They make me feel like I belong for the first time since my parents were murdered. And when they touch me, my whole world sparks to flame.
But they have enemies. Those who would give anything to harm what they hold dear. And while they’ll do whatever it takes to keep me safe, sometimes falling in love will put you right in the line of fire…

Twilight of Embers is a fantastic introduction to the world that is Ember Hollow, and the dragons (and other shifters) that inhabit it. I was instantly hooked on the story, and Hale's writing had me wanting to know more of Hayden's story as it unfolded.
This was an instant pick up for me - why choose, shifters, 5 hot as sin men and fated mates - what more could you ask for? Hale delivered on all this, plus more, weaving a story of mystery and intrigue, keeping you turning the pages/listening to more chapters to find out just what was going to happen to our heroine next.
Hale has nailed the collection of love interests once more, with a variety of personialities and distinctly different men forming Hayden's bond -- Knox, the golden retriever; Cáel, the mysterious, broken Viking-esque male; Easton, affectionately named "Mr. Grumpy Cat" by our FMC; Cillian, the billionaire alpha; and Maddox, the astute college professor. They all are presented with their own challenges when it comes to establishing their relationship with Hayden, and it's written in such a realistic way, that you end up cheering them all on (or cursing them out, depending on the character). They all offer Hayden and the bond as a whole something unique; you definitely couldn't have one left out at all. And sorry, but Cáel? Yeah, hands down favourite; though I feel Cill is a close second.
The cast of narrators is honestly *chefs kiss* - each narrator brings a distinct voice and distinct characteristics to Hale's words - Maddox's growl. That's all I'm going to say there. Part of me does wish this was done in duet style, but given the limitations of dual, they all did a fantastic job at keeping you immersed in the story, and wishing to hear the next character's POV.
And that cliffhanger Hale left us on? Had me wanting to reach for the next book/next audio, to find out what was going to happen next. Hale has created a phenomenally interesting, developed world that I just want to continue listening/reading about. I won't lie; I am absolutely hooked.

This was a fun read. I liked all the main characters. There is nice tension between all of the love interests. I like that the relationships all progress differently in the story. Some faster and some slower etc.
The narration was really good. Duet would have made it phenomenal but I’m saying that everyone did a good job, they are all very good on their own chapters.
I’ll def be listening to the next in the series. Just know that the story is def not finished with this book, it feels like like it’s ended midway through the story. Like a sudden ending of a chapter rather than an ending to a book.
A fun read
