Publisher's Summary

The first book in the riveting Moonlighters Series from New York Times and USA TODAY best-selling author Terri Blackstock.

“Crisp prose, an engaging story, and brisk pacing make this thriller another home run for Blackstock.” (Library Journal, starred review)

When truth doesn’t make sense, will lies prevail?

Cathy Cramer is a former lawyer and investigative blogger who writes commentary on high-profile homicides. When she finds a threatening note warning her that she’s about to experience the same kind of judgment and speculation that she dishes out in her blog, Cathy writes it off as mischief...until her brother’s wife is murdered and all the “facts” point to him. The killer has staged the crime to make the truth too far-fetched to believe. Working to solve the murder and clear her brother’s name, Cathy and her two sisters, Holly and Juliet, moonlight as part-time private investigators. Juliet, a stay-at-home mom of two boys, and Holly, a scattered ne’er-do-well who drives a taxi, put aside their fear to hunt down the real killer.

Stakes rise when their brother’s grieving five-year-old son is kidnapped. As police focus on the wrong set of clues, the three sisters and their battered detective friend are the only hope for solving this bizarre crime, saving the child, and freeing their brother.

“A story rich with texture and suspense, this family murder mystery unfolds with fast pacing, a creepy clown murder suspect, and threatening blog visitor to boot.” (Publishers Weekly)

Truth Stained Lies is the first in what’s likely to be a very popular new series for Blackstock. Her characters are flawed, faltering in their faith, and ultimately human. They’re the kind of people you wish you had as friends. This latest novel should appeal to millions of existing fans and millions of new fans who just don’t know it yet.” (CBA Retailers + Resources)

Whining reader ruined the book

I wish I'd read more of the comments about whining before I ordered this book. The pleading, grating, wheedling whine is incessant. If I didn't already love Terri Blackstock I might never listen to another one of her books. Ms. de Cuir interprets every emotion as a whine - fear, questioning, prayer, demands. And everyone whines - children, sisters, police officers, doctors, nurses. I actually think I like the story just fine. It has a good balance of suspense and plot turns, but keeps Blackstock's emphasis on faith and the power of people changing and choosing well. I still have half an hour to go and I'm not sure I can stand another 30 minutes of high pitched whines. I can't believe someone editing didn't stop Ms. de Cuir and ask her to dredge up ANY other voice.

Story was good but...

What made the experience of listening to Truth-Stained Lies the most enjoyable?

I enjoy reading Terri Blackstock's books. The story line did not disappoint.

Would you be willing to try another one of Gabrielle de Cuir’s performances?

No I would not. I did not care for Gabrielle de Cuir's narration at all. She sounded like she was whining all the time. I think it took away from the story.

Good story. Bad narrator.

The narrator was horrible and whiny. I bought the book and read it myself because I couldn't stand her voice and the whine she gave each character. Wish I could give less than a full star here. Too bad. I love listening to books while commuting to and from work. I was looking forward to Blackstocks superb storytelling. Too bad the narrator choice ruined it.

Great book!

Loved every minute! Very heart warming story and great to listen to with teenagers. Too many times I have to turn off a book because of the language

Average read with constant religious tones

I found the story not too bad, it was a little predictable but I must not have read the other reviews prior to purchasing this book as I was not aware it was Christian literature. I agree with other reviewers in that the narrator was not the best.

Great storyline.

I really enjoyed the storyline however, the narrator was way too dramatic and the pitiful voice is awful. She made the women sound very weak always breaking down over every little thing. Other than the drama queen voice I thought it was great and I'm anxious to read book two.

Good book, good reader

What made the experience of listening to Truth-Stained Lies the most enjoyable?

The author writes very well; her characters are real, and suspenseful. Her Christian message, though clear, is not heavy handed like many others in the genre. I like a good mystery, and though the story started a bit slow, the narrator kept me interested until it picked up. From then on, I couldn't stop listening. Good job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Truth-Stained Lies?

If I told you, it would be a spoiler! ;0) It's toward the end. That is all I will say!

Have you listened to any of Gabrielle de Cuir’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I think I have listened to her on Coming Home by Karen Kingsbury, and enjoyed her and the male narrator very much. I loved the way she did the sisters in this one, especially Holly, who is a hoot. And not many readers can do little kids well. I also liked her reading of Shadow in Serenity by Terri Blackstock. She does emotional things that are very moving. Made the story very scary and exciting to me.

If you could rename Truth-Stained Lies, what would you call it?

Oh, that's a good question. Maybe "White Lies."

Any additional comments?

No. Just God Bless!

Clean Christian murder mystery

It's what I would expect from this great author. Well written and developed characters with a message of life struggle and how God fits into a messed up world.
Left me thinking deeply about my own expectations of others, and understanding Gods plan in my own life.
Thanks for challenging me again ms blackstock.

Great story - kept me guessing until the end!

Great story and great narrator - the best of both! I will definitely listen to others by the same author.

Typical Blackstock

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really. There were a few exciting moments, but I had the mystery solved too early in the story. By the end it was just hurry up and finish.
