Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Trust Me by Lesley Pearse, read by Sally Scott.

She lost her parents and then was sent far, far away . . .

When their father tragically kills their mother, Dulcie and her sister are sent to an orphanage. Told that a 'better life' awaits them in another country, they are shipped off to Australia.

But the promises made to the sisters turn out to be lies.

And it seems to Dulcie that everyone who ever said 'trust me' somehow betrayed that trust. So when she meets Ross, another orphanage survivor, and finds he is a kindred spirit, hope swells in her heart.

But can she ever get over the past betrayals and learn to trust again? And can she fight not only for herself, but also for her sister?

Quite realistic. Good book enjoyed it. Not predictable, and easy to listen to. I would read on of her books again.

It was enjoyable.

I don't think it necessary to detail sexual acts - that can be covered by the readers imagination. I realise it is requested by publishers but in my opinion it degrades the story. Anyone wanting detailed sex can easily access soft porn but those of us interested in the story have enough imagination to fill in the blanks.

Scarred for life. The horrors orphans experienced at the hands of those trusted to educate and care for them.

Lesley Pearse has captured the inner soul of these Characters, so beautifully I wanted to look them up on Facebook - she made Dulcie & May Taylor and Ross Rawlings come to life and feel so real and true. The story begins with two beautiful little girls and demonstrates the power of love against heartbreak where damaged people struggle in our everyday world unbeknownst to us all. This beautifully told time capsule depicts many lives and places allowing you to feel, see, smell and experience these characters lives and experiences in front of you. The narrator voicing this story is so perfectly suited and very talented (a credit to her) as you listen she realistically brings the characters - male, female, English from all walks of life and a very on point Australian 1950's distinct drawl that effortlessly brings the 2D words to a rich and well rounded full dynamic. This book is more than a story or tale to me, it is a life story that will stay with me always. I have my own "Ross" in my life , I will endeavour to be his voice and bring to justice the monsters who took away his innocence and try to find my voice on his and others behalf. I only hope it is as strong and as courageous Dulcie's. This book is and will always be a treasured keepsake to me, Thank you Lesley.

Touching raw & devastating , beautifully written

I've previously read this book and loved it. Hearing it on Audible whilst driving to and from work was a welcome distraction. It really saddens me to know that this is based on true experiences of the young orphans and I'm sure it only scratches the surface of what really happened in these institutions run by trusted religions.
The book is really well written and definitely brings out all of the emotions in the reader (listener).

A great book to listen to
