Publisher's Summary

Dar Roberts, corporate raider for a multi-national tech company, is cold, practical, and merciless. She does her job with razor-sharp accuracy. Friends are a luxury she cannot allow herself, and love is something she knows she'll never attain.

Kerry Stuart left Michigan for Florida in an attempt to get away from her domineering politician father and the constraints of the overly conservative life her family forced upon her. After college she worked her way into supervision at a small tech company, only to have it taken over by Dar Roberts's organization. Her association with Dar begins in disbelief, hatred, and disappointment, but when Dar unexpectedly hires Kerry as her work assistant, the dynamics of their relationship change. Over time, a bond begins to form. But can Dar overcome years of habit and conditioning to open herself up to the uncertainty of love? And will Kerry escape from the clutches of her powerful father in order to live a better life? The answer to both questions is no—unless these two women can strengthen and cement the tenuous bond that forms between them. First they must face storms that neither expects . . . and live to tell the tale.

Contains mature themes.

Long time coming

I have loved these characters for years. Having them in audio book is great. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Great series… but narration could have been better

I’ve read all the books in the Dar and Kerry series and I was happy to discover that it’s now available in audiobook too. Well, Book One, to start with at least.

The story is great and the main characters are relatable.
Dar is a kick ass, no nonsense smart corporate executive but also has a good sense of humour.
However, the narrator does not give life to her character, nor Kerrie’s the way you imagine them when reading the book.
You can hardly distinguish the main characters with the general narration as the voices hardly differ. In fact, almost all female characters sounded the same, you hardly distinguish who’s speaking.
For me, the narration sounded dry and some lines which were supposed to be funny, sarcastic or witty were delivered flat and emotionless.
If you have not read the book and is not familiar with the series, the audiobook might not be that appealing to encourage new followers.

As a fan of the series who has been waiting a long time for an audiobook version, I would have preferred it was narrated by the likes of Abby Craden or Angela Dawe or others that have wider voice ranges that gives more life to different characters and lines spoken with more apt emotions for the audiobook to be more enjoyable.

It is a series of books, so here is hoping the next audio book will be narrated better. Otherwise, I’ll just revisit the story in my kindle.
