About this listen

Perhaps the greatest of all adventure stories for boys and girls, Treasure Island began, a brave boy who finds himself among pirates, and of the sinister pirate-cook Long John Silver holds children as entranced today as it did a century ago. It has appeared with illustrations by many leading artists, but none so apt as Peake's--first published in 1949 and out of print until now.(P)2007 Random House Inc. What three words best describe Alfred Molina’s performance?

Hugely alternating volumes

Any additional comments?

Listening to this as a family while driving was frustrating due to the frequent incredibly quiet sections uncomfortably shattered by suddenly loud performance. It needed to be constantly adjusted manually for volume which reduced it's enjoyability, especially while driving.

Great story, dynamic performance

I can't recommend this audiobook highly enough. Alfred Molina does a tremendous job bringing Stevenson's adventure to life, shifting effortlessly from young Jim Hawkins, gruff Billy Bones, cruel Pew, vainglorious Trelawny, measured Dr Livesey, stern Captain Smollett, childlike Ben Gunn - and perhaps most satisfyingly, the charming and formidable Long John Silver. My second son loved this retelling, and we spent many nights listening together at bedtime, and many days reliving scenes from the book with his Playmobil pirates and redcoats. Congratulations to Mr Molina for reanimating a timeless work with his ability and energy.

An inspired interpretation of an immortal work
