Publisher's Summary

In Neither Here nor There Bill Bryson brings his unique brand of humour to bear on Europe as he shoulders his backpack, keeps a tight hold on his wallet, and journeys from Hammerfest, the northernmost town on the continent, to Istanbul on the cusp of Asia. Whether braving the homicidal motorists of Paris, being robbed by gypsies in Florence, attempting not to order tripe and eyeballs in a German restaurant, window-shopping in the sex shops of the Reeperbahn or disputing his hotel bill in Copenhagen, Bryson takes in the sights, dissects the culture and illuminates each place and person with his hilariously caustic observations.

Another Bryson adventure

Hate the way the reader couldn't pronounce the Danish street names & a few other places pronounced the America way aka the wrong way. But apart from that it was good if not a bit outputting for a few places.

Overcritical at Times

Entertaining for the most part but he was a bit overcritical of his hosts at times.

observations are super superficial

I liked other of his travelling books unfortunately this was too vulgar and stereotypical. Bryson usually has a nice way to see things but this book could just put you off from visiting nice places in Europe. Cities that are described boring or people being rude are just a voiced superficial stereotypes. I felt he was missing an intelligent companion travelling with him and some eye opening conversations with locals.

Another travel log of…

Fun, criticism, laughter, food, scenery, humour, beverages, woe, landscape, angst, weather, smut, architecture, merriment, self reflection, life, as well as history from an unsupervised Bill Bryson while running amok in Europe.
Thank you so much for your thoughts translated Bill Bryson and William Roberts eloquence, much appreciated gentlemen. :-)

Very enjoyable

A gentle story, I loved it....a story of travelling as a young man then repeating the journey years down the track....
