Weak story and characters.

The story telling in this series is much weaker than the Expeditionary Force series. It feels like it’s written for younger readers, but I would say that discerning younger readers would question the plot and character development as much as anyone else.

Great ideas, though events take too long.

Great performance by Tim, the story shows a lot of promise, but as this is the 2nd book and the main story arc, only shows real progression in the 2nd half of this book. I cant help but feel like it is quite a slow burn for an adventure series and it lost my attention more than once. Great premise and presented well, but slow pace with a focus on seemingly superfluous conversations and opinions of some characters with characters behaving not in accordance with their presented natures in parts. Undecided on whether I will purchase the 3rd book. Hope to see more from this author but with a more concise story arc and better developed characters.

A surprise

I listened to this series because I have absolutely loved the expeditionary force series. I didn't expect too much from this series, anticipating that Craig Alanson might not be as good at writing fantasy as he is with science fiction. However, in the end I loved this 3 book series and was disappointed when it was over.

Great follow on from Ascendant

I loved this book. It was well narated and interesting. These three books are a bit of a change from Craig Alanson's previous books.

Kazablanka

To sum up in two words: "simply brilliant". Even better than the first book in the series. And exceedingly well performed. Will be moving straight on to book three.

A captivating performance of a good book

I took a chance on this series as I had not heard of the author but had enjoyed the narrator from a previous series.

I really enjoyed the books and would recommend it.

I often read through the audible reviews and wonder why there is not a better system that provides recommendations. I listened too all 3 of the Ascendant series and would highly recommend them,

Mostly Padding

I went into the book with a little scepticism since the first book was very by the numbers in what it was doing, Transcendent though sort of just decides to change most of the more 2D characters around and their motivations and personality just changes. I tried to like the book and hoped that it would actually get somewhere but what takes a third or even half of another book is instead pushed out to a full book and only at the end do they decide to get the ball rolling again when it comes to progression.

The book also does something which if my eyes had rolled any harder would have knocked me unconscious. They defeat an army, they then defeat another one then guess what. There is a third army which is suppose to dwarf the previous one that they defeated.
