Bloomsbury presents Tracks by Robyn Davidson, read by Katherine Littrell.

A revised, reissued fortieth anniversary edition of this prize-winning, bestselling account of one woman's solo journey across 1,700 miles of Australian Outback

'I experienced that sinking feeling you get when you know you have conned yourself into doing something difficult and there's no going back.' So begins Robyn Davidson's perilous journey across 1,700 miles of hostile Australian desert to the sea with only four camels and a dog for company.

Enduring sweltering heat, fending off poisonous snakes and lecherous men, chasing her camels when they get skittish and nursing them when they are injured, Davidson emerges as an extraordinarily courageous heroine driven by a love of Australia's landscape, an empathy for its indigenous people, and a willingness to cast away the trappings of her former identity. Tracks is the compelling, candid story of her odyssey of discovery and transformation.

Critic Reviews

A strong, salty fresh book by an original and individual young woman ... This will rank among the best of the books of exploration and travel and, like them, is a record of self-discovery and self-proving
An absorbing record of human endeavour and courage, a vivid picture of an extraordinary country by a perceptive and sensitive observer, and the story of an inner journey, of "shedding burdens"
It gets to the heart of landscape and solitude and becomes a venture to the interior of more than one dimension as its author approaches the hinterland of her own thorny psyche
As eccentric, undisciplined, flashily brilliant and pig-headed as its author ... Ms Davidson is a born writer, her book deeply moving
Vivid and vivacious ... Davidson is as natural a writer as she is an adventurer

I found this journey fascinating, heartbreaking, funny... all the things! Well written and the narration was good too.

Fascinating!

a wonderful journey, told honestly.
well told, making you feel like you were there, rather than dot points on her day to day. I could listen to her talk even more about what the trip ment to her, and how it changed her.

loved it!

While I enjoyed this audiobook, there were a few times my mind wandered a little - mainly in the middle section. Being a true story however, really contributed to the listening experience. This was the tale of an arduous journey that most of us can only dream (or read) about. It's also an interesting perspective in human behaviour, especially in the more remote areas of Australia. The narrator was really good too and worth following.

An Interesting and Unique Perspective.

Don't waste your time unless you want to hear someone complain and whinge in your ear for the entirety of her journey, or project their arrogance, self-entitlement and importance upon your being. There are plenty other of great books and stories waiting for you to discover and read their pages.

That's 8 hours and 53 minutes of my life, I will never get back.
