Story
On a snowy winter evening in 1982, 21-year-old Mary Brown accepted a ride from a handsome stranger in the resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado. The trip ended with her brutally beaten and raped. Mary survived, but her predator's violence had only just begun. After 10 years in prison, Tom Luther was released a far more vicious criminal. Soon, from the Rockies to West Virginia, like Ted Bundy, Luther enticed a chain of women into his murderous trap.

Story
In the early hours of 27th January 1996, after an evening spent celebrating at Club Bayview in the Perth suburb of Claremont, 18-year-old Sarah Spiers called a taxi to nearby Mosman Park. But when the cab arrived, she’d already gone. She was never seen again. Four months later, on 9th June 1996, 23-year-old Jane Rimmer disappeared from the same area, her body later found in bushland south of Perth. When the body of a third young woman, 27-year-old Ciara Glennon, was found north of the city, having vanished from Claremont in August 1997, it was clear a serial killer was on the loose.

It took the police a decade to curtail the violence and bring down criminal kingpins Carl Williams, Tony Mokbel, and their accomplices. Must Read
- By Anonymous User on 15-01-2020
Publisher's Summary
For 10 years, the California Interstate 5 highway was haunted by a dangerous serial killer. Incredibly skilled at staying ahead of the investigators as the bodies started to pile up, there wasn't enough evidence to charge the culprit with murder even once he'd been identified. Instead, they had to build a first-degree murder case in a few months while the killer was locked up on an assault conviction.
Key to this was a cast of four: Vito Bertocchini, the burly ex-street cop who took the killing of a beautiful young woman personally; Kay Maulsby, the rookie homicide detective who helped unmask the killer; Ray Biondi, who fought severe budget cuts that threatened to derail the investigation; and criminalist Faye Springer, who attempted to tie the suspect to his victims through subtle but persuasive microscopic evidence.
Drawing on hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with these investigators, as well as other important figures such as the killer's reclusive wife, number-one New York Times best-selling author Bruce Henderson builds a fascinating portrait of this unrepentant murderer.

really solid book 👌
i may be biased because i loved this narrator in And The Sea Will Tell, so as soon as I heard his voice i had pretty much made up my mind that i was going to enjoy this book. it had a even amount of time spent on the investigation and crimes, capture and trial which worked well for the overall flow of the book. if you want a good solid true crime procedural that doesn't constantly jump around with timelines, or have a marathon of court transcripts near the end, id definitely recommend it. it was absolutely worth the credit.

I can’t!! Too boring!
I have tried and tried to get into this audiobook, but it is so boring! No character development. No story development. But the worst part is the horrible narrator! He’s bad. I’ve tried starting the chapter over and over again, but I still lose interest because of his monotonous voice and repetitive intonation! I’m returning the book. Don’t recommend.

Story skips around too much. Boring as hell!
The story has no continuity in the timeline. Even goes into crimes not committed by Woodfield. The reader is like the teacher speaking on Charlie Brown, wah wah wah. Don't listen to this book when driving you will fall asleep for sure! Skip this book!!!

this was my 1st audio book I have listened to. I had a difficult time adjusting to it at 1st. I'm very glad I stuck it out and finished it. It is an interesting and sad story about a serial killer and the detectives working to solve the murders. I enjoyed it.

Very interesting.
I would have liked more information on the trace evidence aspect, but the book gave more than most. What baffles me is how prosecutors sit on cases unless they are going to win, which results in more crime happening. However, you here people being convicted without physical evidence in other places. Still baffles me how serial killers have zero remorse but worried about their families after they are caught. They don't even pretend to lie, just ignore the victims.
