About this listen

A soft, musical voice drifted from inside, seeming to echo in his mind rather than reaching his ears. "The moment is upon us, Orion. We must bring back what has been lost," it said. Orion was dumbfounded. He'd seen magic all his life, but he'd never heard anything like this. He inhaled deeply, a strange excitement coursing through him, and stepped upon the gleaming stairs. The usual sounds of the village faded as he went down, giving way to a soft glow that wrapped about him, a celestial embrace. He found himself in a wondrous realm, a place of shimmering blossoms, gentle streams reflecting colors unseen even in the most vibrant rainbows, and tiny, strange beings who defied belief.

Before him, a little being with silver hair and gossamer wings flitted, its minuscule eyes aglow. "My name is Lyra, and I guard the Heart of the Forest," it said. It takes a brave soul, a true youthful heart, to restore the light when darkness has crept in. Orion absorbed Lyra's words, the tale of the Murk's creeping shadow. It was a darkness that fed on the joy and wonder of youngsters, slowly choking the life from the forest's magical core. Without it, stories would fade, laughter would dim, and imagination would become mute, Lyra said.

Orion found himself unexpectedly weighed down by responsibility, but a new determination welled up inside him. His awe, built on a foundation of courage and kindness, wouldn't let him stand by when the Murk triumphed. Lyra guided him through the enchanting woods, past vibrant fields of blossoms, past streams that shimmered like molten gold, and past trees that whispered words of encouragement. With every step, the light inside him seemed to intensify, pushing back against the encroaching, muted gray shadows that lingered at the edges of this world.
