Publisher's Summary

An energetic philanthropist and a quiet mechanic are thrown together through a car accident. But the mechanic has a secret and the philanthropist has a fiancé. When the secret is exposed, the philanthropist must make a choice. Will she choose love over money?

Kelly Irwin just wants to help children like she used to be - underprivileged, hungry, and with a family so mixed up she wasn’t sure who she really belonged to. None of them wanted the responsibility to raise her. She’s convinced herself that she loves her fiancé and that they’ll make a great team.

Tough Baxter is trying to establish his business and keep his side job a secret. After all, most people don’t think that a man who can barely string two sentences together in the presence of a woman would make a very good relationship advice columnist. Then Kelly moves her children’s center next door to his garage and suddenly not only are his plans to expand his shop wrecked, but his secret is in danger of being exposed.

After spending time with Tough working and helping kids, Kelly can’t deny the attraction she feels for the soft-spoken mechanic. But she has a fiancé and a life plan that doesn’t include Tough, so she turns to the advice columnist all of America is writing to. Will he tell her to follow her heart or pursue her dream?

Rough

I was a bit disappointed with this audio. I knew from the previous book that there was some issues with distinguishing dialogue character changes, but I just adore Gussman’s books. I thought this one might be great for the dialogue changes since Tough hardly speaks! However, it proved the exact opposite. You’ll get to the end of a paragraph of dialogue and won’t know if Tough sucked it up and spewed out a bunch or if there were multiple switches, or.... I was even tempted to go back and check a few things against the book so I could know what all he had said.

Story:
This was a great book. I loved seeing the development of characters and their personalities and the decisions they made. A good book on being true to yourself.

a very enjoyable story of learning to trust!

Ms. Gussman has given us another great story about the Baxter boys, this story was about mechanic Tough. Tough is a really great main character, he's a man with a very difficult time being able to talk to women in public. His heart is very generous to the people in his life. Kelly is a beautiful young woman that works on the side with a children's fun center. Somewhere that the less fortunate kids can have fun and be safe. I thought this was a really fun but emotional book for the two main characters as they dealt with difficult situations. I'm not usually one to say anything bad but I found this narrator was getting to the point of bothering me with the way she said some words. I don't know if that is because of her nationality or whether she just didn't know how to say the word. Anyway it is not a deal breaker to listening to the book as most people wouldn't even hear it.

I received a free code for this book from the publisher to listen to it on Audible. This review is my own honest opinion.

Tough learns how to talk and Kelly learns how to trust love.

Wow Jessie Gussman has such great character development that she pulls you right into the story and you feel like you are living it right along with them. Then as their lives gets tied up in knots, you fuss and worry over them. When everything finally works out ( in a completely plausible way) you finally let out a big breath not even realizing you were holding it. Anyway, this is another great read/listen, the narration was wonderful and there was an amazing HEA. Clean and awesome, I’ll always recommend this author. This is the second brother in the series, it can be standalone but like I said they’re family especially after 2 books.

Another fabulous story

Jessie Gussman is a wonderful author who is able to add humor, insight and drama into every story she writes. Anyone who loves a strong, silent hero (in this case very silent) and feisty female lead will adore Tough Talk. And while each book in the series can be read alone, the story line is so much richer read in order. Join the Baxter Boys in their adventures to happily ever after while climbing from their humble beginnings and share in the uniqueness of each of their journeys. Patricia Ricketts is a fabulous narrator and I enjoyed listening to her.

Quietly (and quite) Addictive!

Tough is quiet, but quiet doesn’t equal stupid. He has known since kindergarten which woman captured his heart. The problem is that the children of their community need her to provide a stable place for them. For her her to do that, Tough will need to stay away.
After all, he has a secret, one that will be tough to share.
A truly original story with a plot that is at once: surprising, uplifting, and (cleanly) spicy!

Another great Baxter brother HEA!

I loved this story! The plot flowed smoothly and some things I thought were obvious to happen didn’t. I was kept on my toes and greatly enjoyed this HEA. There were some funny parts and the author did a great job bringing the other Baxter brothers into the story to set up for the next book. I can’t wait to read the next love story! The narrator did a decent job and I guess I’ve gotten use to her because it wasn’t as difficult to get through listening this time around. I still think she doesn’t distinguish the different characters very well but the author makes up for where the narrator lacks so it’s well worth the listen.

I really enjoyed the story

what I like about these books are the fact that they are well written and very clean Romance. they display a desire for each other but a restraint needed to maintain a healthy relationship with God. I love the fact that it's not filled with vulgar language or alot of preaching . it seems to be just as good story by people who respect Christian values and I like that the the stories are not too long. They are Snippets from what seems to be a whole picture. Which drives me to read the next book. the one criticism I have is that the narrator mispronounces several words. and I realized it's not a big thing but it was a bit distracting but overall it was a good story and easy to listen to

Lack of emotion in audio

The book was enjoyable, although, listening to the reading of it was a little painful. The voice was missing emotion, seemed to be choppy, and made it difficult to feel the characters within the story. It felt as if the voice was reading line after line like a robot, and not really paying attention to what was going on in the story with voice inflection and such.
