About this listen

Small town reporter Mia Durante finds herself having brunch with the President of the United States on the day civilization comes to an end.

An electromagnetic pulse blinds the U.S. Cars crash. Planes fall. Chaos reigns. Power is restored within minutes, but it’s already too late. Russian nukes are falling. U.S. allies around the world are already wiped out. The United States will cease to exist inside of five minutes.

After giving the order to launch a full-scale retaliation–dooming the planet–the president, his staff, Secret Service and those lucky enough to be visiting the White House, are whisked below ground, where they board several Earth Escape Pods. As the EEPs launch into Earth orbit, missiles descend.

Less than forty survive the end of the world. When they return, they’re greeted by survivors of a different sort. The bloodbath that follows leaves Durante and nine other survivors on the run. They find themselves fighting for survival in a world in which only torment remains and where death is the only escape.

Torment is award-winning author Jeremy Robinson’s first pulse-pounding horror novel (originally penned under his Jeremy Bishop pseudonym). It's a horrific tale of post-apocalyptic terror that is one part zombie story and one part Dante’s Inferno. The story asks hard questions and generates strong emotions in everyone who listens to it—anger, excitement, and most of all: fear. This book asks the question that everyone is afraid to answer: are you ready?

Wow, I loved it and hated it and loved it and wanted to scream all at once!! Brilliant- you never know what to expect from this author, but you know it will never be dull and predictable, this story will have me thinking about it for quite some time!

You’ll be thinking about it long after the end

Fast paced and brutal. What’s the worst that could happen? Torment is all about that and more. If it’s not bad enough that the world has been nuked, wait til they arrive back in Earth… now that’s a shit sandwich no one wants a part of.
Highly recommended reading!

That certainly was something different to the rest of what's in the series/ universe. I'm not going to lie, I wanted to abandon the book a couple times only due to the sheer heartache and anguish of the story. I was in tears a number of times, but I appreciate the uniqueness of the story. I only wish the was more of a sense of hope.

Crikey Jeremy

First off I think this is captured in the wrong section ie. it shouldn't be apart of the infinite timeline but was included for some reason? I think the story was weird with no clear resolution but introduced abstract concepts which I appreciated.

Re-Review: I want to edit this as I have completed all but the last book in the infinite series and I think Torment is one of those books in the series which you have to trust as it comes back with the overarching themes. Good listen - keen to see how it all gets tied up. (Changed from 4 stars to 5)

Good, different.

Really thought this was going to be a great read. The start was really interesting and led to so much promise, but then the story just became plain silly. The lack of radiation in a post apocalyptic world, the speed in which the survivors mutated into demons- the voice acting was great, I just wish the underlying words were equally good. Shame.

Started out well..

Absolutely brilliant, what a ride! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it, edge of your seat right till the last moment!

I love JR's work, but this one should have been left separate from the series. The writing is still good, and the story would appeal to people who are religious, but it isn't my cup of tea. I have 2 hours left of the book, but I am going to let it go and move on to some of JR's later publications.

I've had to abandon this one

Just couldn’t get into this story. While I usually like Jeremy’s work this is not a genre I usually go for so ignore the review if horror is your thing.
For me the story didn’t seem to go anywhere, basically just a long zombie chase.

Slow burn without any bang

The only good thing was RC Bray. Didn't like the religious twist. It's a massive No from me.

Disappointing and disturbing

RC Bray's performance was amazing and carried the audiobook. But the story itself was subpar because the entire premise of the story revolves around the Christian concept of Jesus's forgiveness and needing to ask for it. This alone destroyed any narrative complexity the story had and killed any value for textual analysis. In contrast, the author's other book, NPC, at least presented unique ideas and gave room for academic interpretation, despite still preaching Christianity. I am personally agnostic and have previously been Christian. I would've appreciated alternative interpretations and ideas of God as presented in NPC. This is because the all knowing, all benevolent and all powerful God as presented in the Bible is a flawed concept due to the philosophical problem of evil. A preachy story that properly addresses the problem of evil would be a good book about Christianity. Unfortunately, this story fell very short of that.

A lot more preachy than NPC
