About this listen
‘Even in the darkest of Dickens novels, no family comes across quite as mendacious, grasping and avaricious as the Trumps’ Financial Times
A REVELATORY PORTRAIT OF DONALD J. TRUMP AND THE TOXIC FAMILY THAT MADE HIM – WRITTEN BY HIS NIECE, MARY L. TRUMP
Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in New York with Donald and his four siblings. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. As a first-hand witness and a trained clinical psychologist, Mary explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who occupied the Oval Office.
Written by the only Trump willing to speak out, Too Much and Never Enough is a fascinating and unnerving analysis on one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families. Mary Trump’s insight and intimate familiarity means she alone can tell the truth on what makes Donald, and the rest of her clan, tick.©2020 Mary L. Trump, PhD (P)2020 Simon & Schuster UK
Editorial reviews
Behind Donald Trump’s bombast, bad haircut, and blatant disregard for the conventions of business, politics, and personal behaviour lies a deeply troubled man. Too Much and Never Enough is a riveting memoir by Mary Trump, his niece and a psychologist, which provides an inside account of the bizarre family dynamics that shaped the man.
Too Much and Never Enough highlights how the sins of Donald Trump’s father, Fred Trump, caused lasting emotional damage to the former president. Author Mary Trump reveals details about Donald’s dodgy financial dealings, his compulsion to lie and cheat his way to wealth and power, and his total lack of regret or regard for anyone else.
As you would expect from a trained psychologist, Mary Trump delivers a clinical, comprehensive account of her uncle’s personality disorders. She makes for a convincing and believable narrator as she bears witness to the historical and familial forces that built the Trump persona, while doing her best to tear down his façade.
The author’s intimate knowledge of family secrets and her gift for storytelling make for a revealing portrait of the 45th President of the United States. While some might have expected a self-serving, righteous tone, Mary Trump narrates her own audiobook with a hint of dark humour and detached cool. There’s also a sense of regret for her family’s role in creating such a divisive figure.
Although the Trump family tried to stop its publication, Too Much and Never Enough was released in July 2020 and sold more than 1.3 million copies in the first week. The follow-up, The Reckoning: Our Nation's Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal, analyses the impact of Trump’s presidency on the American people, economy and political system.

Mary's book is well worth the read/listen
Mary was recently asked by an interviewer what she would say to her uncle today - her answer was 'RESIGN '. Its doubtful that will happen, but hopefully he won't be reelected.
This book explains Donald Trumps psychopathy - his domineering, dictatorial, cruel, criminal minded father who reined over his family with fear and abuse, together with his emotionally absent mother, created this corrupt, bully, wanna -be-dictator, who pathologically lies. He absolutely is not equipped nor holds qualifications, or the (brain width), to lead the most powerful nation.
Mary's assessment as a clinical psychologist with first hand observation and experience with 'the Donald' is a really interesting compelling story - I hope she and her brother get the inheritance which was stolen by her uncle.

What a fantastic insight!
This is one of the most anticipated books of 2020, and it hasn’t disappointed. The insight we are giving into Trump world is phenomenal. Understanding the inner workings of the family and hence, Donald, is very enlightening in its details, though hardly surprising given what Donald has been doing during his life.
Would recommend to any and everyone!

No room at the Trump Christmas table for Mary
An extraordinary, devastating memoir of a family which loves Mammon. It is a memoir, and I’m sure episodes will be recast by others, but if only 25% is “true” it’s still exposes the Trump heart. Mary almost invites the listener to feel sorry as the ghost of Fred Trump is seen in so many events shaping his family. Fascinating, compulsive and well read and paced.

Interesting
Very interesting story about why Donald Trump is so ineffective as not only the President but also as a human being.
Very sad in a way. Shows just how vital a solid, secure, loving and safe environment is for proper human development.

Riveting
I could not stop til I heard it all. I feel sure that if a single word were not true Mary would have been sued. Thank you for letting us see exactly how this monster emerged. I do hope, for the sake of the whole world, that he is ousted I. The next election.

Know the man, know the monster
Compelling and compulsory - anyone who still has questions about the Trump presidency and why he was and is completely unfit for the role will find all they need to here. Right from the source, from the family who made and knew him.

Great book thank you Mary
So glad I read this book so eye opening. Made me realise how so called powerful people can bluff their way through life doesn’t matter how they do it, honestly or dishonestly. Donald’s disregard for those unimportant to him and his lack of empathy makes me wonder what is happening in America that he has so many followers. Great book well done Mary. Loved your honesty.

The real Donald Trump - in all his glory
This was impossible to put down. A book about the POTUS which shows he's really not evolved from a scared 3yo seeking his dad's approval. Fred Trump, I hope you're burning in hell, Donald is your creation.

Interesting but not fascinating
Pretty repetitive toward the end. Interesting, but not fascinating. The author correctly points the finger at the President as being responsible for so many COVID-19 related deaths, and calls him a mass murderer. Loved the psychological assessment at the start. The end of the book felt rushed.
