Unusual requests are commonplace at the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, but so are very ordinary ones, such as a plea for money: when a distant cousin calls on Mma Ramotswe to ask for help with another relative's hip operation, tricky questions arise in regard to family responsibility. Mma Makutsi and Mr J. L. B Matekoni are far from convinced of the merits of the request, but it is hard for Mma Ramotswe, with a heart her size, to turn people away.

It is a troublesome fact on which even Mma Ramotswe and her assistant Mma Makutsi agree: there are things that men know and ladies do not, and vice versa. It is unfortunate, for example, when Mma Ramotswe's newest client is the owner of the ailing Kalahari Swoopers, that one thing lady detectives know little about is football.

A Treat, but the Narration !
What a gem to listen to Alexander McCall-Smith book based in Gaberone, Botswana. This time Ms Andoh, failed to get the pronunciation of Se-Tswana names right which made for a grating in listening. The humour and pretensions of living in a small "city" came out very well. We look forward to more books from this series.

The Voice.
Really enjoy Alexander McCall Smith's books including the Ladys Detective Agency series. What spoils it for me is the reading, supposedly mimicking Africans, the Adjoa Andoh thinks necessary. I have met a lot of Africans in Africa, various countries. None of them speak in that exaggerated screeched manners. It just spoils the listening experience. Took away from my enjoyment of the book.

A good book let down by the narration
The familiar characters of the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency are off on another case, and they proceed the way we have come to expect and enjoy, but the narration gets to be grating after a while as the different voices become strident to the point of annoying especially when reading Charlie's part. I found myself losing the will to finish the book and had to really hang in there to get to the conc!usion. This is better as a written book than an audio version and I feel the purchase of the audio book was a mistake

Wrong information in Audible description of plot
Some of the info on Audio about the plot is incorrect (at the time of listening). That spoilt my experience because I was waiting for a couple of things to happen which never did. I even wondered if I'd somehow got an abridged version, but no. Apart from that it was an uplifting and engaging read ike all the others in this lovely series and Adjoa Andoh's narration was wonderful.
