Publisher's Summary

Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except...she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her... and more. Did he think she was mad?

Eloise Bridgerton couldn't marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking...and wondering...and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match. Except...he wasn't. Her perfect husband wouldn't be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled...and when he kissed her...the rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn't help but wonder...could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

Very Enjoyable! Listened in 1 day

If you could sum up To Sir Phillip, with Love in three words, what would they be?

Him: Tall, hunky, handsome -- Her: fiesty, beautiful, understanding

What did you like best about this story?

Synopsis: Sir Phillip Crane, 30 years old, has recently lost his wife of 8 years to severe, chronic depression. In those days they called it melancholy. His wife attempts suicide by drowning in a near frozen lake and dies several days later. The Crane's have disrespectful and undisciplined 7 year old twins who have been left to the care of numerous nannies and nurses. Mrs. Crane's never married cousin Eloise, age 28, starts a kind letter conversation with Sir Phillip for 1 year following the mourning of his wife, whom he did not love.

Eloise shows up at his doorstep one evening, the children playing terrible pranks on her, Phillip yelling at them. The next day the only way Phillip can stop her mouth from talking incessantly is to kiss her! And the romance begins! Eloise a force to be reckoned with and just what Phillip and the children have needed so badly.

This story had me chuckling at Eloise and Phillip's banter numerous times, and laughing out loud while they were having an argument in the greenhouse when "her mouth was moving and no words came out." There are 2 scenes of sex and they were pretty hot!

It ends happy and satisfying, albeit a bit quick, I wanted the story to go on.

Any additional comments?

This is a good Austen Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth Bennett type story.

WELL DONE!

What did you love best about To Sir Phillip, with Love?

Altho there is so much honesty in Ms Quinn's stories, I really enjoyed this one. To have a 2nd chance at life itself is awesome. To get to know ones self is better as you are facing it. A delightful book!

What other book might you compare To Sir Phillip, with Love to and why?

None it has it's own quality.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?

Phillip

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made to me laugh & cry. There is much truth in it. Dare to see & feel it.

Just ok

This is probably my least favorite story. It never felt like the couple fell in love with each other let alone desired each other. The tension that a great story was lacking in the end it felt like rhe heroine just settled.

Whine

Would you try another book from Julia Quinn and/or Rosalyn Landor?

I like Julia Quinn and the Bridgerton series, however, this book had the male character whining too much. Julia was just filing up space and forcing a book, Eloise deserved better.

What was most disappointing about Julia Quinn’s story?

No respect for Sir Philip, his character seemed to be whining and he had no depth of character. I do not enjoy books when adult males whine.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Rosalyn Landor is an excellent narrator.

Did To Sir Phillip, with Love inspire you to do anything?

no

Best of the first five in the series

I have a close friend who struggles with abusive impulses that she learned from her father’s abuse of her. My family also struggles with depression. Those aspects of this story really hit me hard. This love story made me cry.

Much thanks to Ms. Quinn for her writing and Ms. Landor for her usual amazing performance.

Very disappointing

Hero's personality was unlikable and the heroine very spoiled. She did what was shunned for that time period and her attitude unimpressive. The love is very shallow and based on nothing. The sex was written to show how the two suit. I cannot listen anymore and still have over four hours to go

Great relaxing listen

Really enjoyed this. I found it easy listening and engaging. It's not Shakespeare but good fun and well constructed characters.
