Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

One of the greatest American novels ever written.

Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.

A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man falsely charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

Transported to the wold of Scout and Jem.

Most of us have read the story that takes us into the world of Scout and Jem at least once. However this Audible version brings their world to life in a way that expands our understanding of this beautifully written book. Sissy Spacek makes the characters live in our imagination as she sets the scene and controls the pace of the narrative. Her ability to understand each situation as it develops makes this Audible version an essential part of our family's listening pleasure.

Sissy Spacek at her best

I thought it was about time I read this classic. Brilliant of course and narrated perfectly in that southern drawl. Cannot imagine enjoying it as much if someone else narrated or I read it myself. Sorry when it finished.

Loved it

I loved this book when I was a kid, and I haven't read it for a long time, but nonetheless I though I would be revisiting i already knew. What i discovered on the other-hand was that Sissy Spacek's narration added a new dimension to the story that made me fall in love with the characters it all over again.

Loved this, was sad when it ended...

I listen to audible books whilst walking, this one had me walking more than I normally would just so I could listen. I loved Sissy Spacek's narration and the life she added to the story and in particular Scout. I would highly recommend it.

Great classic about racism in 1950 s

Interesting to see the parallels with BLM both then and now. In some ways little has changed.

Amazing book narrated in engaging manner

A must read book for anyone. Narrator did a wonderful job by narrating the book in a wonderful manner. You can actually visualise the characters talking to each other.

Truly Boring

Like most 'classic' novels, this is truly boring. Over the space of 12 hours precisely 4 interesting things happen. I don't care how many people pretend this is an enjoyable read so they look smart, this book is dull right down to its core.
