About this listen

How much trouble can Elizabeth get into on a walk in the woods? Despite the fear of injury, Elizabeth Bennet risks all to save a stranger, unaware that the threat to her person will be overshadowed by the threat to her future. Faced with doing what is right or what he would prefer, Mr. Darcy proves he is a gentleman by choosing the path of right, but will that choice prove disastrous?

I liked the pace of this variation. It’s well written, with exciting twists and turns…Darcy’s introversion is well portrayed…but Elizabeth’s knocked-down self esteem is a little too exaggerated. Her return to great health is not coupled with a sparkling intelligence I expected.
Mr Fife’s voices for men and older women was fun, rollicking and easy to detect who is who in mixed conversations, and also for distressed Lydia. However I found Elizabeth, Georgiana and Jane’s voices were a somewhat simpering challenge for the narrator. Despite this it’s a good exploration for those who like an alternative to Wickham’s obsessive ploys. (Not suitable for little children.) Lots of carriage rides and engagement with servants are also a steady feature.

Adventure, whole Bennett-Darcy-Wickham drama!
