Editorial reviews

Narrator Stephen Critchelow's unaffected performance starts off on an innocuous note but he steadily increases the dread and eeriness of Charles Dickens' ghost story to great effect. A man reads about a murder in the newspaper only to begin having visions of the murder scene and of the ghost of the victim. Critchelow's descriptions of the apparition are spine-chillingly vivid, and his pacing will have hairs rising on listeners' napes as the ghost continues to haunt the man - who becomes a juror for the murder trial - and those around him.

Publisher's Summary

This is a story from the Classic Ghost Stories collection.

Ghost stories continue to be a popular audiobook genre, and this group of four stories brings together some of the best. Reader Stephen Critchelow has spent a lifetime collecting and reading works like these and, with carefully chosen music, brings a strong sense of atmosphere to the recordings.
