Summary

Global bestselling author of River God and The New Kingdom, Wilbur Smith, returns with the next epic book in his Ancient Egyptian series.

A RUTHLESS ENEMY. A CIVILISATION IN RUINS. A QUEST FOR SALVATION.

For over fifty years Egypt has known nothing but war and devastation at the hands of the Hyksos, a bloodthirsty barbarian people from the distant east who continue to advance, crushing armies in their wake. Times are desperate, but throughout the conflict, a brave resistance fights on under the great Taita, a slave who has risen far beyond his ranks.

Piay, entrusted into Taita's care by his parents at the age of just five, has been trained to become a great spy, unmatched by any other. Determined to prove his worth, he embarks on a dangerous mission to the north - to Mycenae and through the heart of Hyksos land and across the great sea - to find allies to help defend Egypt. As the situation becomes increasingly precarious, and the fate of the kingdom is hanging in the balance, can Piay succeed in his quest or will this mean the end of the glory that is Egypt once and for all?

A rather long story from Wilbur Smith this time.

Not a masterpiece like his others but as a fan, he writes engaging tales.

Most enjoyable.

Outstanding as always

I have been a fan of Wilbur Smith’s novels for over 45 years but this one in my opinion would have to be the worst by a country mile. The story is pathetic, the narration very lack lustre to the point of boredom and it was a struggle to listen through to the end and I only did because I had paid for it but it still took me three goes. Compared to the other Egyptian novels this story and the characters has no depth or interest for the listener. It is predictable and downright boring. I really don’t know how to describe how bad it is but if you want waste good money and time then go ahead and buy it but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this one. There are so many great books that could have been written following some of the earlier books but this book is gobbledegook

Waste of money. Terrible story

I love Wilbur Smith's ancient Egypt series, and so I bought this book hoping it would be just as good even though it was 'co-authored' by Mark Chadburn. Oh how wrong I was, I don't believe that Wilbur Smith had any part in writing this book, I think he just allowed his name to be put on it, for who knows what reason. The story is boring, with endless battle scenes that are all the same described in detail, the characters (unlike the characters in the other books that were actually written by Wilbur Smith) are lacklustre and unappealing, I felt no connection with them at all. I persevered hoping it would get better but by the end I was just hoping they would all die off and finish the damn book. Won't be fooled by this scam again.

So, so bad!
