Unvermutet gerät der Hotelier Carl Houston in einen Alptraum: Auf dem Rückflug von einem Familienbesuch in Australien wird die Maschine entführt. Mit knapper Not überstehen er und sein Sitznachbar, der Schauspieler Ronnie Sheldon, den Anschlag der Luftpiraten. Wieder zurück in England erwartet ihn Scotland Yard und bedrängt den arglosen Hotelier mit Fragen zu seiner Abreise aus Sidney. Dann taucht auch noch Ronnie Sheldon bei ihm auf und behauptet, jemand trachte Carl nach dem Leben.

Carl Huston will nicht glauben, was der Schauspieler ihm erzählt, bis ein Fremder einen Anschlag auf ihn verübt. Sich keiner Schuld bewusst, verzweifelt er immer mehr an dem Terror, dem er ausgesetzt ist, bis ihm über seiner Vorliebe für Koalabären ein Licht aufgeht.
