Det er helligtrekonger og tid til at tage hul på et nyt år på det gamle idylliske kloster Chi-meur i det smukke, barske Cornwall. Klosterets altmuligmand Clem og hans fireårige søn Jakey gør klar til at pakke julepynten ned, og Clems mor Dossie er kommet for at hjælpe dem. Clem kæmper stadig med sorgen over sin kones død og arbejder hårdt på at skabe et godt nyt liv for sig selv og sin lille søn i klosterets portnerbolig. Heldigvis er de omgivet af varme, gode mennesker, der står klar til at hjælpe og støtte. Men den trygge base i klosteret er truet, da en pengebegærlig ejendomsspekulant fatter interesse for den smukke, historiske klosterbygning.
