Thuongilla on heitä kova ikävä, vaikka elämä kotimaassa tuntuu jo kaukaiselta. Thuong tekee parhaansa oppiakseen elämään kahden kulttuurin välillä. Raili Mikkanen (o.s. Räsänen, s. 1941) on suomalainen kirjailija, jonka teoksia ovat esimerkiksi Thuongin päivä (1987) ja Unelmien varjot (2008). Mikkaselle on myönnetty Finlandia Junior -palkinto teoksesta Ei ole minulle suvannot! (2002).
