Publisher's Summary

He's tall. He's dark. He's brutally handsome.... And he may be her only hope.

Kit Jernigan despairs of ever fitting in with her new tight-knit K9 unit - they've been through too much to welcome a stranger. So when a killer strikes, it's a fight to convince her fellow officers to trust her long enough to catch the woman she knows is responsible. She can't do it on her own. What she needs most is a partner: local fire spotter Wesley March.

Wes knows in his heart that Kit is right, and he's willing to leave his lonely tower to help her prove it. But the more time they spend together, the hotter the fire smolders...and the more danger they're in. A member of the K9 unit's inner circle is determined to have her revenge - no matter who gets burned in the process.

This time, it's personal.

Another excellent Rocky Mountain K-9 book

Book 3 leaves the listener with a cliffhanger! Which is thankfully answered in this book, but not right away. However, it’s worth the wait!! There is much action with twists and turns, that I listened to this book in 2 sittings (darn the need to sleep)!! I hope Ms. Ruggle plans more books in this series!

Finally

At long last a true strong female who doesn't whine or act like she should be allowed to perform tasks she isn't trained for. I was so tired of reading of women who felt entitled. As a strong woman myself, I expect others to earn their way not just demand their way by whining. Also, this book actually had story content and not just chapter after chapter of monotonous sex. The narrartor has a good voice even if at times it is difficult to know which character is doing the talking. Overall good job.

Love the characters

Katie Ruggle is such a talented author, who is especially skilled at developing fun, interesting, and flawed characters. While the story at times can become over-the-top crazy (everything blows up, get sit or burns dow regularly), somehow that’s fine, you still just want to see what happens next. I think that one of my favourite themes in these books is the way relationships are developed and valued, even where people have weird personality issues they are incorporated into what makes that person unique.

Satisfying end of series!

This was really good! It was well paced and had my attention right from the beginning. Good to finally have a heroine who is not just strong willed, but is also trained, capable and listens to her instincts! I especially liked how this book is written for us to see things from Kit's perspective as a newcomer, even though we know what happened in the previous books and know why Theo, Hugh and Otto are acting cagey. There wasn't any unnecessary rehashing or overexplaining. The loose ends from the previous books were all tied up really nicely. Wes is really sweet and his conversations with his sister were a nice touch. As a woman of colour, I also appreciate how Kit being a mixed race woman on a mostly white male police force in a very white town is not ignored, but is also not overemphasised at the expense of showing off her resilience and general badassery. My only qualm is that there should have been a woman on the cover of the book, not a dude with Kit's dog. I would have clicked on the series faster if it was immediately obvious there's a legit strong heroine in there somewhere. Narration: Same issues as with the other books, choppy with odd intonation, but seeing as this is book 4 I'm clearly invested enough in the series to endure it.

Story content

Enjoyed most of this story but it seemed to drag on too long at the end. Female cop did not seem to be well trained in defense. Reader was good.

Whew! Life is never boring in Monroe!

It’s been a few months since Sarah’s brother and his gang blew up most of the tiny mountain town of Monroe, CO. Enter the newest addition to the police force, K9 handler, Kit and her partner Justice. Kit has to deal with being the newbie in town and on the job...and her new sexy, if a bit reclusive, neighbor, Wes. As always, life is never boring in Monroe. There’s an arsonist/killer on the loose...Kit has her suspicions but no one believes her. Then Jules’s stepmother shows up...she gets her just desserts. The killer’s motive was astounding...and Kit is vindicated! Another great story!

Through the Fire

Overall it was pretty good. I have a few nitpicks about a 5’2” woman being able to move a 6’3” unconscious man but the mystery kept me guessing till the end, which I guess is all you can really ask of these stories, lol.

Great!

This audiobook is # 4 in the series "Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit" and the last. I thought it very good with answering all the questions of books # 1-3. And some surprises in this book. I liked that Callie Beaulieu narrated all of the series. She does an excellent stutter for Sam. I recommend listening to this series in order. Enjoy 😁

Great narration

I love Katie Ruggle's books...usually. For the first time,I couldn't see the characters as three dimensional. Usually I want to meet them they're so good. This was salvaged by some great narration.
