Story
A savage and hilarious satire, Gulliver's Travels sees Lemuel Gulliver shipwrecked and adrift, subject to bizarre and unnerving encounters with - among others - quarrelling Lilliputians, philosophising horses, and the brutish Yahoo tribe that change his view of humanity - and himself - forever. Swift's classic of 1726 portrays mankind in a distorted hall of mirrors as a diminished, magnified, and finally, bestial species, presenting us with a comical yet uncompromising reflection of ourselves.

A Classic
- By Maia on 02-07-2017
Publisher's Summary
Three friends, one dog, one boat, one river. What could go wrong? Plenty.
Even when the sailing is smooth, the stories never stop in Jerome K. Jerome's comic novel. Plaster fishes, dead water rats, near-death escapes, and many, many jocose anecdotes create a colorful narrative of holiday life on the river. For once three hypochondriacs self-diagnose themselves as "clearly overworked", the rest practically writes itself!

A Classic, Funny Tale
If you could sum up Three Men in a Boat [Classic Tales Edition] in three words, what would they be?
Everything Goes Wrong
Who was your favorite character and why?
You get to be the most familiar with "J", the one telling the story. As such, he became my favorite. I felt the other two were there just to provide him with partners in this misadventure.
Which character – as performed by B. J. Harrison – was your favorite?
Jerome, or "J", the one telling the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were numerous moments in this book that had me laughing out loud.
Any additional comments?
The antics of the three young men and the dog can be downright hilarious as just about everything goes wrong. Along the way they also share stories about things that happened to family, friends or friends of friends. The story add even more amusing dimensions to this funny tale.
If you are looking for a fairly short funny classic, this one is for you.

P G Wodehouse it's NOT
My husband and I take many car trips and love to listen to books - we've listened to every P G Wodehouse we could find and were totally charmed. Three Men and a Boat left us cold. After the ridiculous train scene where not even the engineer knew where the train was going, we gave up and didn't finish listening. If you've listened to and loved P G Wodehouse, I would recommend giving Three Men and a Boat a pass.
