Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Lexi Ryan, Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts and their dangerously seductive princes.

Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she'll do whatever it takes to get her back - including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.

Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie's only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.

Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.

Couldn't put it down but...

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down until the end. The last few chapters frustrated me, especially when it ended leading into another book and it's not listed in as a series as I wanted a book that was summed up at the end. That still didn't put me off, I'll just have to wait for the next book until then.

Wonderful story with a cliffhanger

These Hollow Vows was told in a really cohesive manner and I was intrigued and interested the whole way through, with my thoughts flying all over the place with ideas as to what was going to happen. Brie was a wonderful MC and I loved following her journey as she came into her power and understanding of what her place was in the world. I don't want to speak too much on Sebastian or Finn, as they're a massive part of the book and I don't want to spoil anything - all I can say is that the last 25% of the book had me messaging my friend with my thoughts literally every page with lots of !!!!!!!!

We were left on a cliffhanger which is really rude, but I can't wait for book 2!

Cool storyline!

I liked the plot of this book very much. The dialogue between characters didn’t always feel plausible and natural which was a little distracting at times. But overall a cool story.

The narrator was great when using an American accent but when switching to a British one, it was very posh and not always accurate which is distracting. I know it’s cool to use different accents, but if they don’t sound authentic it just ends up being distracting.

Good Story until End

So I thought this story was really good. I was loving how the character debrief was going until the last few chapters. It went from an independent girl knowing a hard life to becoming a whining, indecisive fool. The hints where there and even the character picked up on the hints but still chose to throw all sense out of the window. She ignored everything she knew for what? Like I said great story line but the last 5 chapters or so didn't do it for me.

Dear god, the worst book I’ve ever felt this compelled to finish

This book felt like the author took every top YA book from the last ten years and threw it up on a Disney Princess plate. At terrible as the writing was and as ANNOYING as the main character was I couldn’t stop listening. This could be the a very very rough draft of a pretty decent book if the author took the extra time to really flesh out the backstory and world building instead of just using “oh yeah here’s this convenient magical thing we never introduced before to save you!” The only other review on audible when I bought it was “didn’t see the ending coming” uh yeah because there was no foreshadowing whatsoever and a “Hans from frozen” style betrayal. Give it some more love and tie up the 1000 plot holes and it would be a good book. (The narrator sounds like the OG Barbie voice actor so that was nice)

I thought I knew

I thought I knew how this story was going to go.
I honestly sat in stunned silence at the end of the book. I wasn't ready. Well done Lexi.

It was okay…

As you can see from the book description, this book has two romantic interests in it. The problem was I didn’t really like either option. Both didn’t really give information or let her know what was going on, and the “final straw” for one of the options didn’t really seem like a big deal to me. She could have asked for more of an explanation…. Anyway, at the end I felt like she made some rather large choices pretty quickly and it felt rushed.

Aside from that, there is good world building, there are neat powers, and there is some character growth. I just wish there was more growth in the characters and more depth to them. But I still finished the book in a few days so it wasn’t bad, otherwise I wouldn’t finish. It was just okay.

Kept me on my toes!

I’m a sucker for a love triangle and this one did not disappoint! Not gonna lie I yelped at the ending and I can’t wait for more. Plus the world building is great and easily digestible. Definitely recommend if you’re in need of a politically charged fae romance.

10/10 Recommend 🤩

I’ll be honest, I am now nursing an even bigger book hangover now than I had before (from The Plated Prisoner series)! I cannot even wait until the next book comes out in July! This book has elements of my most favorite series in it. It reminded me so much of The Selection series and also A Court of Thorns and Roses (favorite of all time)! And yet, it was so new and totally it’s own magic! So. Good.

a little underwhelming

I feel like this book has a lot of a c o t a r elements to it, but the storyline isn't as good. The ending had a good pop to it, just a little disappointed.

Wow

I have to agree with both sides here. I couldn't stop listening however I enjoyed the book. One review said there was no foreshadowing. I do not agree with this. There was loads of foreshadowing. The ending was so foreshadowed I was not surprised at all but kinda mad it just ended there. I also suspected the princes origins from the beginning. I dont wanna give spoilers but I'm telling u everything in this book is foreshadowed. I did find it obnoxious how the main character was a bit delusional at end before the big blow up but all in all, I'll purchase the next book when it's available.

good fluff for a teenager-to immature for adults

The MC is clueless, gullible, naive and can't do a single thing on her own. She overhears and sees so many things that make it clear who she is and where the story is going but "she just doesn't understand" seems to be the theme. Three different male characters are telling her what to do and pretty much controlling her while lying and keeping the truth from her and she KNOWS that they are and just goes along with it without question so she comes off as a kinda weak girl (can't even call her a woman). After reading a Court of Thorns and Roses I was hoping for something similar and exciting but the depth of the characters can't even be compared. I perfer much stronger, independant, smart, or at least funny female leads in a story these days.
