About the author
Joy Ellis is not your ordinary newcomer to crime fiction. She started work in the 1960s as an apprentice florist in Covent Garden before opening her own flower shop in Lincolnshire. Later in life, she began to consider a career change towards crime writing and attended a workshop in Greece led by Sue Townsend, author of Adrian Mole. Ellis has now left the flowers behind and dedicates her life to writing gritty crime thrillers set in the Fens, where she lives with her police officer partner.
About the narrator
Richard Armitage is a British actor known for his vast array of film, television and theatre work, including The Hobbit, Spooks and The Crucible. His trademark baritone voice has earned him recognition, too, through his performance on many notable audiobooks as well as in TV and radio show narration.

Well-performed and an interesting crime story
It was a good story and worth the listen. Some plot holes and issues that I didn't feel were resolved satisfactorily (see below if you don't mind spoilers).
CONTAINS SPOILERS AHEAD!
I liked the narration of this story and in general it was a good tale. However (I may just have missed it?) it didn't seem to address how Shauna Kelly (the first girl missing and then found in the water) died? Did she escape from the torture caravan and run and fall into the water? It seemed like her story was abandoned as soon as the other two girls went missing and they were led to the drinking club story. They didn't return to her at all after the introduction. Also, the other thing I felt was a plot hole/issue was that the Mulberry family idea was introduced so late in the story. The backstory of the siblings and the parents murder/suicide could have been dropped so much earlier e.g. in relation to the places they were searching for the girls. By the time it was dropped in, it was immediately obvious that all the apparently "unconnected" people involved were the Mulberry siblings. However having said that I don't think the actual killer got enough page-time. I get that they were going after Micah as a red herring but by the time the actual killer was revealed it was a bit like "umm... who even is that...?" Kenya Black's story was predictable I thought, but didn't match the MO of the killer - wasn't she a child and the rest of the girls were teens? Why would the killer go for her if she was a small child when the rest of his victims were teens?

Really enjoyed this book
Richard Armitage is a great narrator who brings this story to life with all its twists and turns ...I hope the rest in the series are as good

An interesting ride
Good story, well narrated. I enjoy stories where I become invested in the characters and want to know more about them, this was the only part that let this story down. I really enjoyed it and the plot was well thought out and revealed in stages that keep you intrigued but I really didn't care about any of the charterers so I never got fully involved with the story and that is what pushed it over the edge into 5 starts for me.
