About this listen

Hannibal was a great and skillful general who defeated the Romans at Trebia, Lake Trasimenus, and Cannae, and all but took Rome.

G.A. Henty has woven an exciting adventure tale that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats while providing detailed information about the Punic Wars and the political climate in which they took place. This is the perfect way to awaken interest in history and encourage learning.

The journey of the protagonist is both compelling and immersive, painting details with dramatic purpose and bringing the reader further into the historic world of Hannibal in a story told through many related adventures. Henty’s story-telling here is frequently amusing and interesting and will appeal to the young and old. I would estimate younger minds would struggle to grasp the story at standard speed. Parental discernment is wise for under 12s. This is solely because the descriptions of characters dying is sometimes graphic and may be upsettling to some. However, many will love the story all the more for it. It is not unwholesome but prudently selective about the grave things that may have befallen those who lived at such a time of wars.

Cleverly written, well delivered
