AN AMAZING THRILLER FROM TERRY HAYES.

If, like Kane, you're a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again - by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide - and when to shoot.

But some places don't play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane's experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan meet are such a place - a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Kane travels there to exfiltrate a man with vital information for the safety of the West - but instead he meets an adversary who will take the world to the brink of extinction. A frightening, clever, vicious man with blood on his hands and vengeance in his heart...

Terrible narration

The narration of this book honestly ruined it for me. I had been so anticipating this book ever since Pilgrim, but I just couldn’t get past the cowboy twang narration. I will buy the hard copy.

Interesting subject

First you have to overcome this book being no ‘Pilgrim’. Once you can do that you find an interesting, imaginative storyline, futuristic but not too hard to imagine as a reality. The audio was awful though and took away from the book. The heavily americanised main voice was gratingly, drawlingly, annoying. The various attempts at female voices went from bad to worse, or sounded the same, even when the character was different. I loved I Am Pilgrim and can only imagine the pressure to write another like it. It took me 3 days to read ‘Pilgrim’ and 8 weeks to read ‘Locust’. However, overall, the story is worth telling and hearing and the bellwether sounded.

Another great adventure

I had read all the reviews and nearly didn’t give this a go. I Thoroughly enjoyed I am pilgrim and had been waiting a long time for this release. I don’t know why all negative reviews on the narrator as once I got into the story I found I couldn’t put it down. It was fast pasted and his voice was fine and makes sense. Towards the end the book takes a turn which caught me by surprise and was glad when it looped back around.
Recommend highly great book.

Fruity!

I loved ‘I am Pilgrim’ as it was impressively realistic. However this book strayed so far from reality that it had me laughing at times. I couldn’t stop listening mainly because I was curious about how crazy it might get!!

A bunch of cool ideas but shouldn’t all be in one book,

I am pilgrim was great, this is nothing like that. Although I still enjoyed this book it lost me more than once though , one minute I’m listening to a book about a spy in the middle east…. Cool I’m getting I am pilgrim vibes but then im listening to a book about futuristic technology in a submarine but then some wierd alien sci fi stuff happens and we are in the future¿??? Wtf. This could have been broken down into three seperate books, this book has no direction and feels like the author brainstormed a bunch of cool ideas and then said f**k it I’ll just put them all in the one book. The narrator isn’t that bad iv heard a lot worse, iv read a lot of people saying the narrator ruined the book

A mish mash

Initially I struggled with the narrator but settled on x1.2 speed. But the real issue is the story seems as if Mr Hayes has taken every idea he has and mixed it all up in one mess of a novel. Might have pulled it off too if it wasn’t for the ridiculous time travel/ submarine plot where he makes up his own physics( if you can twist light: you can twist time) WTF?… I love SF but this plot twist just did not work. Let alone Orcs!!!
Loved I am Pilgrim which I read in print.. but this is NOT even close

Expect a twist.

Took a weird twist that I was not expecting. However, it was still a good story.

A twist that had me second guessing my preferences.

As the story progressed, I found myself absorbed in the characters and story line. A twist in the final section almost made me give the story away in disappointment but I persisted and I so glad I did. The story opened up in a new direction that was completely unexpected but was absorbing and fascinating. Giving me a further appreciation of the characters and story line. The narrator was superb and portrayed the characters so perfectly. I would recommend this story to everyone who enjoys a great read.

Not what I expected, but In a good way.

I picked up on the twist toward the middle of the book. I thought, surely not? However was pleasantly surprised to see my theory become a reality. I'm a fan of books that cross the realism boundary, and am happy to see that this title did it well. Beyond a few jumps and plot holes, it was an enjoyable experience.
