Publisher's Summary

Matilda Boseley's adult ADHD diagnosis was a massive, earth-shattering event. She was given a prescription but had no idea what ADHD meant for her identity, her relationships or her future.

Twelve months of confusion later, journalist Matilda embarked on an epic voyage to figure out what's really happening in the stormy seas of the ADHD brain and write the guide she wished she'd had.

The Year I Met My Brain is the ultimate travel companion for navigating and enjoying life as an ADHD adult, covering:

- what adult ADHD symptoms look like

- why so many ADHDers (especially females) are missed as kids

- how the disorder impacts our relationships, careers and self-esteem

- why we unfairly treat ourselves like failures - and how to find self-forgiveness and healing

- practical tips for social and organisational wins

- and, most importantly, how to make our lives work to fit our brains rather than trying to force our brains to fit our lives.

Uplifting, empowering, deeply researched and sparkling with 'a-ha' moments, The Year I Met My Brain is an invaluable resource for ADHDers and those who love them.

A Brilliant Mind.

Matilda tells her own story of personal discovery interwoven with a story of humanity’s understanding of the ADHD brain.
Matilda has a brilliant mind, and I’m grateful that she has had the perseverance to share that with us all.

So accurate it bought tears to my eyes, often.

The honesty of this book for everyone with, and near neurodivergent ADHD folk, was amazing, refreshing and inspiring. I now openly join the Pelagic community on a very interesting ocean life.

So helpful and personal!

Matilda captured a lot of the ADHD experience and explained it so well. Loved her vulnerability! I was super thankful for her understanding of the science and literature that us mere mortals simply struggle to understand or don’t have the time to research.

A must read if your are unsure

Wow Matilda!
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou
This was so good for my understanding of myself.
I was recently diagnosed at 39 years old and I am navigating my way through my first year. Your research, data collection and explaining those findings in a simple way made absorbing the content that much easier, especially for my distracted brain. Thankyou!

I didn’t want it to end….

So great hearing Matilda’s story in her own voice and words. Highly recommended for the Adhdr’s out there (and their loved ones) seeking knowledge, understanding and support trying to access or accept a diagnosis and survive and fit into world that doesn’t always accommodate neurodivergence and the ocean brain… 🌊

Looking in a mirror!

I felt like I was getting to know my own brain! A cathartic story that mirrored my own personal experience so much at times I thought I was reading an autobiography. But then it’s filled with helpful tactics, research and next steps for adults, like me, who find themselves newly diagnosed.

A must read book for anyone navigating ADHD!

Last week I was diagnosed with ADHD at 31. Amid the flood of emotion and feelings I turned to TikTok for relief. After hours of scrolling I came across mention of this book. The tag line sounded like exactly what I needed at that moment.
The content that Boseley was laying down hit home. I enjoyed every minute of this book.
Boseley manages to simultaneously present a variety of data, studies, and expert opinions all while tying in personal exploits and experiences. Even while going though the data and details related to ADHD Boseley’s voice shines through clearly. My wife and I are going to listen to it together now.
It is nice to have this as a companion as I navigate my own ocean brain from here on. As I set sail on my own journey, I am grateful for everything this book armed me with.
