Publisher's Summary

Never in a million years did I think it would be Ian Parker who saved me....

I know I should stay away from Ian Parker.

But when my drug-dealing stepdad kicks me out, I have nowhere to go. Squatting in an abandoned shed on Ian’s grandpa’s farm seems like as good a plan as any.

Ian finds me there, of course, and he insists on me moving into his spare room. I should say no, but the appeal of a roof and a warm bed is too much. Not to mention Ian’s brown eyes and strong arms.

We’re nothing alike, but the spark between us is undeniable. My life is finally looking up.

Until I call the cops on my stepdad and unintentionally get my pregnant mom arrested.

Now I have to sacrifice my dreams to take care of my mom’s baby. She’s the only family I have left. Meanwhile, Ian’s band is taking off; his dreams are coming true.

Ian is my one chance at love. I just hope he doesn’t become the one chance that got away.

Swoon....

3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ I’ve read other books by Brittainy and enjoyed them. The reason I gave The Wreckage Of Us a three star is because it was just missing something. I like Brittainy writing style. I even love the slow burn, however this book is a little to PG. I feel if you’re going to write a slow burn book then you need to give your readers a explosive hot scene and Brittainy dropped the ball on that. This wasn’t anything like her previous books. The storyline was good, but I found myself getting bored and actually skimming through chapters. Ian and Hazel love for each other was beautiful and there were definitely many swooning moments. Ian is every girls dream....Hot Rockstar, with tattoos and a southern gentleman. Who wouldn’t love that! 🥰 I know Hazel was beyond her years, but I found the situation she put herself in to be a like unrealistic. You really don’t see many girls her age willingly to take on that big of responsibility. I did love her sarcastic mouth and I even laughed out loud several times. Overall the story was okay, it dragged on a little to long and I wished the chemistry would’ve been more off the charts hot between Ian and Hazel. It just felt like the characters were lacking something. Maybe it was the nonexistent sex scenes. I don’t know. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I will definitely continue reading Brittainy books, just this book really didn’t do it for me. Audiobook: Stella Bloom performance is always a five-star. She truly brings life to her character. I’ve only listened to a couple other books with Rock Engle as the narrator and I enjoy his voice, However I do not think he was a good fit for this book. He sounded to old for Ian’s character and his women’s voice needs major work. lol

Not my favorite

My least fave of all her books. Just couldn’t really get into it like the others. Rock Engle kinda ruined it for me as well. He is not good at the female voices and to be honest the other men’s voices either. Maybe read instead of audio.

Pretty Good

This book was pretty good. There was some drama inserted toward the end that I didn't care for but overall the story was good. The narration was great.

Would have been 5 stars; however...

What I enjoyed most about this book was the developing relationship between Ian and Hazel. It was organic; not based on sexual chemistry. The author took the time to develop the relationship and that seems missing in most of the mass-written erotica crap that's billed as a romance novel...yes, I said "crap." Anyone can write erotica (and judging by the books available on Audible, everyone does!), but it takes a seasoned, thoughtful writer to actually develop the characters. I was grateful to the author for the ABSENCE of sex as the characters developed their relationship organically. I stay away from books labeled as erotica because I know the book will lack a storyline (but have lots of unrealistic sex). Reading a novel labeled erotica and looking for the storyline is like walking into a hardware store to purchase a loaf of bread. It isn't going to happen. The only part of this book that turned me, causing me to skip a couple of chapters was when Hazel lost her backbone and gave in to fear; it seemed so out of character for the Hazel who'd existed in all the other chapters. What was unique throughout this book was the message was the same. Keeping the porch light on is imperative for anyone who's lost their way due to any outside influence. There is incredible depth and wisdom woven throughout this novel, which makes it a rare gem.

decent book bad performance from male narrator

I love all the books from this author, but this wasn't my favorite one. My main issuie being the performance of the male voice actor. He sounded like an 80 year old man trying to play a young character. His portrayal of the women characters came across nasally and whiny. I wish I had read the book rather than listening to it. Woman voice actor was great and story was good.
