About this listen

"A romantic comedy that's fun and flirty, young and fresh." (Popsugar) (22 of the Best Books This Winter Has to Offer)

One of Oprah Magazine's 22 Romance Novels That Are Set to Be the Best of 2020

Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy #ownvoices enemies-to-lovers novel, perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!

A wedding planner left at the altar? Yeah, the irony isn't lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina's offered an opportunity that could change her life. There's just one hitch...she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.

Marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he'll be working with his brother's whip-smart, stunning - absolutely off-limits - ex-fiancée. And she loathes him. If they can nail their presentation without killing each other, they'll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina's ready to dish out a little payback of her own.

Soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isn't interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again....

The story is enjoyable and the representation is wonderful. What let’s this down is simply the male narration, he’s great when portraying himself but listening to him impersonate our female heroin, her family and his best friend feels like a hate crime (okay that’s a exaggeration but still it’s pretty terrible). I ended up having to switch to the kindle version of this half way through because his narration just got more and more frustrating. Definitely recommend the book but not through audible.

Good Story but the narration is…. Questionable.

Rebecca Mozo is a great narrator, and so is Wayne Mitchell.... when he uses his own voice. His representation of female characters is weird and a bit like a Sesame Street muppet with hay fever. The voice he uses for Dean, his best friend, sounds a bit like a homeless muppet. I was a bit put off by the overexaggerated Latina accent he used for Natalia, especially because the same affectation was not used by the female narrator.
The story itself was a bit "meh". I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't drag myself through it again. It followed the tried and true template of enemies-to-lovers but it wasn't a home run for me.

Meh

The male narrator’s attempt at female voices gives me the ick. I’ve had to stop listening.

I can’t get past the narration

How did you mess up a female voice that bad I’m sorry but it’s giving never been around a female in his life like what is this it genuinely got sensory issues from this.

Male narrator made my brain hurt
