Publisher's Summary

The teachings of the Native Americans provide a connection with the land, the environment, and the simple beauties of life. This collection of writings from revered Native Americans offers timeless, meaningful lessons on living and learning.

Taken from writings, orations, and recorded observations of life, this audiobook selects the best of Native American wisdom and distills it to its essence in short, digestible quotes - perhaps even more timely now than when they were first written. In addition to the short passages, this edition includes the complete "Soul of an Indian", as well as other writings by Ohiyesa (Charles Alexander Eastman), one of the great interpreters of American Indian thought, and three great speeches by Chiefs Joseph, Seattle, and Red Jacket.

True insightful sacred wisdom to last a lifetime..

Being of Native American descent myself, I can honestly say, of all the various literature and philosophical texts I have read over the years (47 to be precise), this profound work has emotionally impacted my sense of self, country, and cultural identity the most. It is by far one of the best insightful text I have read / listened to to-date, which sheds light on real Native American philosophy as well as the Colonial and pre-modern American mindset.

I highly recommend giving this title a listen. The narration is great; it's short, engaging, and the wisdom you'll gain from listening will truly enrich your life forever...

It was good.

I have to listen to it again to get the most out of it. I will be looking at others, but if your starting to walk the red road as a white person, this is a good start.

Excellent Listen

This was a great listen, with new-to-me ideas and philosophies. I have 0 regrets about purchasing and listening. My only minor grievance, is that I had to keep changing the volume while listening

Indians as they Really were

This is primarily a narrative of the Indian nations and how they desired peace. it shows without pointing fingers how the the US military slowly broke the promises made to them.

Was all I'd hoped for and more. Inspiring

Wisdom was all I'd hoped for and more. Inspiring but sad as well. The ending is a powerful summation to the rest of the book.

In their own words; but from a limited time period

I loved hearing about these great people in their own words. And the narrator did a good job. My only complaint is that the speeches and quotes are almost entirely about the European invasion of north america and the actions that followed, and there wasn’t as much as I was hoping for about the prior way that native Americans lived. But some of that does come through.

Beautiful story

I would suggest this to anyone who wants to learn about Native American culture. It was written in a way that helped you feel as if you were there with the people narrating the story. You can feel the empathy throughout the entire thing. It was beautifully done and truly mesmerizing to hear.
