Worse than the first, too hard to beat perfection.

I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series and so I was extremely excited to hear that the sequel was coming out and this book did not disappoint. I bought and listened to The Unready Queen the day it came out. As with the first, the story and delivery were amazing, my only qualm with it was Fable. She had much more of a prominent role in this book than the first and I just find her kind of annoying, though I did chuckle at most of her jokes. In my opinion she is much less mature than the boys and kind of dragged the book down a bit. That being said, I still did really enjoy it, and I'm sure that listeners who are actually in the target demographic would have no problems with the slightly dumbed down approach of the sequel. As always, I would die for Cole and Tinn and I find Tinn's interactions with Evie so sweet, I look forward to seeing the developing character relationships in the rest of the series. Not to go into too much spoiler territory but though I like the villain and it seems really thought through, I kind of wish that Ritter didn't cop out and actually followed through on the stuff that was being implied to happen, though, but that goes back to what I said before about how the book seems less mature when the twins aren't the main characters. I will still be waiting with rapt breath for the third in the series, though, as the mystery of Joseph Burton really intrigues me. The Unready Queen is nowhere near as good as The Changeling but is is hard to beat perfection. 10/10 would read again, 10/10 would recommend.
