About this listen
Every grave has a story ... The much-anticipated new novel in the Cormac Reilly series, from the no.1 bestselling author of The Ruin and What Happened to Nina.
For years the boglands of Northern Europe have given up bodies of the long-deceased. Bodies that are thousands of years old, uncannily preserved. Bodies with strange injuries that suggest ritual torture and human sacrifice.
When a corpse is found in a bog in Galway, Cormac Reilly assumes the find is historical. But closer examination reveals a more recent story. The dead man is Thaddeus Grey, a local secondary school principal who disappeared two years prior.
There's nothing in Grey's past that would explain why he was murdered, or why his body was mutilated in a ritual manner. At first, progress on the case is frustratingly slow and Cormac struggles to keep his mind on the job. His ex-girlfriend, Emma Sweeney, is in trouble, and she's reached out to him for help—Emma's new husband has gone missing in Paris, and the French police are refusing to open an investigation into his disappearance.
Cormac is sure that he has found Grey's killer, and is within hours of an arrest, when another mutilated body is discovered on the other side of the country. Two days later, a third body is found. Press attention is intense. Is there a serial killer at work in Ireland? Has Cormac been on the wrong trail? And if so, can he find the murderer before they strike again?

A Gripping Return for Cormac Reilly!
I really enjoyed The Unquiet Grave by Dervla McTiernan. It was great to have Cormac Reilly back in action! At times, I found it a little confusing jumping between several different storylines, but the story still pulled me in.
Aoife McMunn’s narration was outstanding as always—she really brings the characters to life and makes the listening experience a pleasure.
Looking forward to more Cormac soon!

Great to be back in Galway
Preordered this book as I enjoyed the past three in this series so much. Sadly, the gloom of the weather and the characters in this story almost overwhelmed me. There was very little further character development or hope for their futures. Some parts of the book felt unfinished, small threads left untied, as though editors were rushing the author to a deadline. Thanks for letting us go back to Galway Dervla, but hold your ground next time, and make it as brilliant as Book 3!

Sorry it's over ...
I just can't get enough of Dervla McTiernan's books. She's got the knack. It always keeps me engaged, I always enjoy going back to it, and she never lets you down. I'm always sorry when it's over. Her attention to detail is part of it, but also her way of spinning a yarn, and delivering a few surprises that you don't see coming. The characters are authentic, and this book was no exception. The reader is also first class, and I do think this enhances the experience. She has so many voices, and her Irish accent is very appealing.

Another cracking Cormac story
Thoroughly enjoyed this latest Cormac instalment. Couldn’t stop reading and had it on everywhere I could, but of course was sad when it finished. Hopefully Dervla is already onto the next one…

Intriguing plot twists and the best narrator.
I love the way Dervla introduces several plot threads that are deftly tied together in the closing chapters. I have listened to all her books on Audible and can't wait for the next one.
I could listen to Aoife McMahon all day - I frequently do. I now go looking for other authors that engage her to read their books.
