Publisher's Summary

Over 120 years after Oscar Wilde submitted The Picture of Dorian Gray for publication, the uncensored version of his novel appears here for the first time in audio. This volume restores material, including instances of graphic homosexual content, removed by the novel's first editor, who feared it would be "offensive" to Victorians.

SO MUCH BETTER than the edited versions!

First off it says "uncensored" which only means uncensored by the editors. It's a PG13 for violence, not sex. I couldn't finish the edited version because of all the waffling philosophy from Lord Henry. This original version has brief and very streamlined philosophical debates, and the whole thing just works so much better. It's a slick story about relationships and how people treat each other and the morals that drive them, or lack or morals. The foreword makes so much sense of why the edited versions were published instead of this original version, and the culture that Oscar Wilde was writing and living in that shapes this story. The story feels very modern in its composition, but has a timeless moral, and is of course a time capsule of the society of the time. So so so so so good, trash the edited versions and install this in your bookshelf instead. And the narrator is 5 stars, lovely voice that emotes well and there is much emoting to be done.
