Publisher's Summary

A simple way to connect your neighborhood and your community and build friendships.

Are you consumed with a busy life but unsure how to slow down? Do you desire connection within your community and think, Absolutely, but I don't have time for that or I can't create that? What if there was another way through it all, a way to find those moments of peace and to create a time for honest, comfortable connection? What if meeting neighbors and connecting with friends was as simple as showing up and being available?

Desperate for a way to slow down and connect, Kristin Schell put an ordinary picnic table in her front yard, painted it turquoise, and began inviting friends and neighbors to join her. Life changed in her community, and it can change in yours, too. Alongside personal and heartwarming stories, Kristin gives you:

  • Stress-free ideas for kick-starting your own Turquoise Table
  • Simple recipes to take outside and share with others
  • Stories from people using Turquoise Tables in their neighborhoods
  • Encouragement to overcome barriers that keep you from connecting
  • New ways to view hospitality

Today, Turquoise Tables are inviting individuals to connect with each other in nearly all 50 states and seven countries. Ordinary people like you wanting to make a difference right where they live.

Community and friendship are waiting just outside your front door.

Inspiring

What did you like most about The Turquoise Table?

I think the generosity of the author, and the confidence she installs through her own example.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The author! She had generosity of spirit, a desire to not just be blessed but to bless others with what seems a simple thing but became so much more.

What does Ginny Welsh bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Reality... it was like I was sitting at the real turquoise table and hearing the story from the author over long cups of coffee in all seasons.

Any additional comments?

Loved it. Honestly inspirational.

Too drawn out

At most this should have been a 45 min listen. Too much repetition and preaching.

Cute idea, didn't justify a book

This apparently was all spawned by an article, which seems to be a suitable length. The author seemed to really struggle to make a book out of this, which is why it is so short. Also note that it's slanted heavily to white, Christian upper middle class women with children, which made me a bit uncomfortable.

Still, the idea - spending time with the family or friends in the front yard instead of indoors or in the back yard - is an interesting one, although I don't think I personally would ever want to do that.

Such a beautiful story

We are a prior miltary family. My husband just recently finished his enlistment after 8 years of service. We have settled down and bought our first home in a cute little community we hope to stay in for years to come. Unfortunately we don't know anyone here. Naturally I'm a very homey welcoming person. I love to host, I love to have friends over. The more the merrier! That's hard to do when you are new to town with no connections. My aunt suggested this book after I was talking with her about ideas to get involved. I'm so thankful for this suggestion. I'm going to buy my table and paint tomorrow! I'm so very excited to see how God opens and moves our hearts with this ministry. Excited to become a front yard person ❤️

Meet your neighbors like the old days

This reminds me of my childhood! I knew every kid in my neighborhood. I would like to help create a sense of community right where I am. I would truly like to connect with others right where I am. Also the art of hospitality doesn’t have to be expensive, stressful or hard!

An Amazing Read of Love, Faith, Community

I love that this is an idea that span not just your immediate neighborhood, but the community at large. I have been thinking for sometime about ways to get myself and others together on a regular basis to share our stories, joys or pains. This book gave me the courage to go forward with my idea of putting a bench in my Church yard, as I live in an association development, where people can sit and talk after worship or whenever the want.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

loved it and will gladly listen to it again. I've been in a rut trying to figure out why there is such a lack of community and this book helped me in so many ways

Simple idea that's a game changer

Easy listen that will fuel your fire to connect. Kristin's honesty helps create a relatable experience. Although I usually skip books with a religious bent, the subject matter applies across all faiths/non-faiths... if you are looking to create belonging, religion doesn't have to matter.

I'm getting ready to put my version Turquoise Table to work! Thanks Kristin!
