About this listen

Second in the age of Madness trilogy, The Trouble with Peace is the next instalment of a series which is revolutionising fantasy....

Conspiracy. Betrayal. Rebellion.

Peace is just another kind of battlefield....

Savine dan Glokta, once Adua's most powerful investor, finds her judgement, fortune and reputation in tatters. But she still has all her ambitions, and no scruple will be permitted to stand in her way.

For heroes like Leo dan Brock and Stour Nightfall, only happy with swords drawn, peace is an ordeal to end as soon as possible. But grievances must be nursed, power seized and allies gathered first, while Rikke must master the power of the Long Eye...before it kills her.

Unrest worms into every layer of society. The Breakers still lurk in the shadows, plotting to free the common man from his shackles, while noblemen bicker for their own advantage. Orso struggles to find a safe path through the maze of knives that is politics, only for his enemies, and his debts, to multiply.

The old ways are swept aside, and the old leaders with them, but those who would seize the reins of power will find no alliance, no friendship, and no peace, lasts forever.

Amazing

The usual mix if dark humour and violence. Mr Abercrombie keeps going from strength to strength and Mr Pacey knocks it out of the park.

The usual excellence

I have listened to all of Joe Abercrombie and Steven Pacey's co-productions. They are all wonderfully conceived and enacted. This latest installment is no different. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Great book

A great continuation of the story. Raises the stakes, grows characters! Worth every dollar!

Listened for Hours on End.

Grimdark alright - Joe Abercrombie just gets worse - and by that I mean better - just in the most terrible way. Everyone is Good and Evil in his World and he examines it with a consciousness that weighs and accepts this truth and drags us kicking and screaming through it. Hell of a story, can't wait for the next.

Back to the mud

Its been a good few months since I last listened to Pacey read Abercrombie...I absolutely loved it. After consuming all other entries in The First Law world it almost felt like coming home.

I cannot recommend this combo of writer and narrator enough, they're simply the best. Abercrombie is a favorite of mine but I seriously wonder what part Pacey has played in that!

Exceptional story and narration

Could listen to Steven Pacey all day long. Not a bad story either, fantastic battle scenes.

Steven Pacey Mastery

Christ what a middle book! This is nothing short of genius and Steven Pacey’s narration puts everything else to shame. Highly recommended.

Superb

Insightful, brutal, and everything in the ugly cracks between. Abercrombie is a master of bringing together the heartbreaking honesty of grimdark with the profound scope of the epic.
To quote the villanous Scar of the Lion King, "be prepared."

A Master of his Craft

Steven Pacey is by far my favourite narrator and he truly brings this story to life. The book itself is incredible.

Great Story and Narration
