About this listen

A life lived in the shadows. A love that should never have been hidden.

In the small suburb of Gawler, South Australia, the tang of cut grass and eucalyptus seems to mingle perpetually on the warm air. The neat houses perched under the big gum trees on Church Street have been home to many over the long years.

Years of sprinklers stuttering over clipped lawns, children playing behind low brick walls. A seemingly endless stream of youthful paperboys. Family barbecues. Gossipy neighbours hanging out washing or drinking sundowners on their verandas. Arguments. Accidents. Births, deaths, marriages.

This ordinary street has seen it all. Until the arrival of newlyweds Thomas and Elsie Mullet. And when one day Elsie spies a face in the window of the silent house next door, nothing will ever be ordinary again....

This will took me back to another time. Some really good laughs in this rollicking ride through five decades of a three piece puzzle and how they manoeuvre through life while tethered together by strong threads. This is the second book I have read by Kim Lock and waiting for the third release on Audible. An enjoyable ride. Relatable.

I was led through the lives of these characters and enjoyed every minute of it. The description of moments through the decades brought back memories - visions, scents, sounds and tastes. I enjoyed the development of love and tolerance which traced through the story.

Beautiful

A book that has some suprises. Glad I listened rather than read the book. I felt like I really knew the characters. Kim Locke just gets better. Read her next one. I loved that even more.

Just read it

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the narration was excellent. I would imagine this book will create some feisty discussions and disagreements when it's a book club choice. Covers a moral dilemma very well,I thought. I certainly shed tears for them all.

Very very unusual subject.
