Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim, read by Sean Pratt.

'Is it the world that's busy, or my mind?'

The world moves fast, but that doesn't mean we have to. In this timely guide to mindfulness, Haemin Sunim, a Buddhist monk born in Korea and educated in the United States, offers advice on everything from handling setbacks to dealing with rest and relationships. Haemin Sunim's simple messages - which he first wrote when he responded to requests for advice on social media - speak directly to the anxieties that have become part of modern life and remind us of the strength and joy that come from slowing down.

Hugely popular in Korea, Haemin Sunim is a Zen meditation teacher whose teachings transcend religions and borders and resonate with people of all ages. With insight and compassion drawn from a life full of change, the 'mega-monk' succeeds at encouraging all of us to notice that when you slow down, the world slows down with you.

This book ended all too quickly ㅠㅠ

By the last chapter, I only hungered for more. This book opened up my heart more.

Helps navigate us through this complicated world!

I loved this book! Eye-opening, mind-blowing and heart-warming all at the same time.

Haemin Sunim gives us the simplest (and yet so beautiful) solutions to everyday problems.

Superficial and incoherent intro to mindfulness

Probably a great and low key introduction for absolute mainstream to mindfulness. However, if you want more depth, this is just incoherent, seemingly random verses from a monk.

Good book

it is a good book with nice daily life lessons that any one can benefit from, but I did not like the last chapters where the author tried to enforce certain religions to the reader which went far away from the book title.

Do not buy the audiobook

Whilst there is undoubtedly lots of interesting material in this book, it’s basically a collection of sayings. Had I bought the paperback I could stop and circle one or highlight another. As an audiobook however it’s like being pummelled with fragmented sentences for two hours!

The Buddha Fortune Cookie book

There are some good sayings and the reading has a hypnotic effect but the only good thing ultimately is it is short. I liked some of the sayings honestly, most however are a little 'no sh.t Sherlock'. They could have as easily come from sayings from a pub than a Zen monk. I ask you "If each blade of grass has an angel encouraging it to grow, then you have an angel, don't feel lonely". Maybe it is a case of lost in translation but the chapter on love should be edited out. Maybe 3 stars is a bit high but the performance was very good.

Life changing

This book is a lesson on life for life and how to enjoy life more.
I wish I had read it years ago. It is so simple and it makes problems seem simpler and not as important as they were to me previously.
It feels like an awakening.
